ICIMOD Library Database Goes On-line
http://www.icimod.org.np/library

The entire ICIMOD Library database is now available on-line.
You can search the catalogue by author, title or keyword.
You can also fill in a form to create searches on a particular
subject.

The Library uses an older version of UNESCO's popular
CDS/ISIS software to catalog its bibliographic holdings.
To make this available on the Web, the CDS/ISIS database
is parsed into MS SQL Server 2000 database while accordingly
formatted for the search engine to exploit it effectively.
An utility has been developed in Visual Basic to parse the
CDS/ISIS database acceptable by SQL Server. The search
engine uses ASP (Active Server Page) technology.

Thus, by making use of the Microsoft's IIS Web Server in
combination with the SQL Server, the library catalogue has
been made available on-line. In the process we have evolved
a methodology and a tested case, which ICIMOD would be
pleased to share, as well as any information on making
a Library database based on CDS/ISIS available online.
