Invites application for faculty and research positions
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta is a
premier national institution of India promoting management
education in a wide range of fields.
The Centre for
Development and Environment Policy (CDEP) at IIM Calcutta
had been established as an interdisciplinary platform
with the purpose of building and strengthening of profes-
sional excellence in crucial policy issues related to the
increasingly complex relationship between economic development
and the natural environment. With this objective, the CDEP
undertakes interdisciplinary research, teaching and training
activities.
The library of the Institute is rich in
literature on environment and development policy and the
CDEP has in-house GIS facilities. The CDEP has its own core
faculty and research staff. In addition, members of the
Institute's faculty from diverse disciplines contribute to
many CDEP activities. The CDEP offers a great opportunity
for high quality research, teaching and training in the
various challenging areas of environment and development
policy. The CDEP is looking for innovative and energetic
professionals for its faculty and research positions.
Job Description: Openings in the faculty position are at
the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. The
appointment to the faculty positions can be either permanent
or visiting. The candidates selected for the faculty positions
would have the opportunity of contributing to challenging
research, teaching and training programmes.
The visiting
faculty positions are normally offered for a 2-year period.
Openings in the research position are at the levels of Junior
Research Fellow (JRF) and Post Doctoral Research Fellow
(PDRF). These positions are offered for a fixed 2-year period
and carry a consolidated stipend. Those selected for the
research positions will be largely collaborating with the
faculty members. The CDEP is presently focussing activities
on the following areas:
* Sustainable Development: Concepts and Assessment
* Environmental Economics
* Integrated Water Management
* Biodiversity and Biotechnology
* Industry, Trade and Environment
* Science, Environment and Global Governance
Minimum Qualification: For the faculty positions the minimum
qualification is a doctorate. Some post-doctoral experience
in a relevant field would be preferable. For the JRF
positions the minimum qualification is MA/MSc/M.Tech/MBA or
equivalent. For the PDRF positions, it is a doctorate.
Those who have submitted doctoral thesis and expect to get
the degree soon may also apply. Proven ability to undertake
independent policy research and produce publications of
international standards will be appreciated.
Compensation: The pay for Assistant Professors will be in
the scale of Rs 12,000-420-18,300 and for Associate Professors
in the scale Rs 16,400-450-20,000 (in addition substantial
allowances are paid as per government rates).
The con-
solidated stipend for the JRFs would be fixed in the range
of Rs 7,000 to 9,000 per month. Candidates having only
MA/MSc/M.Tech/MBA or equivalent qualifications and no relevant
work experience will be eligible for a monthly stipend of
Rs 7,000. For others with higher qualifications or proven
research output, a higher stipend may be considered.
The
monthly stipend for the PDRFs, with a fresh doctorate, would
be fixed at Rs 12,000. For candidates with better
qualification, experiences or publications a higher stipend
may be considered.
On Campus Accommodation: The IIM Calcutta campus is located
on a picturesque site at Joka, at the southern boundary
of Kolkata. Successful faculty candidates will have the
option of availing excellent on campus housing. Accom-
modation at the post-graduate hostels on campus will be
available for JRFs and PDRFs at reasonable costs.
