When I see the list of the names in a Nepali mission/Embassy, I begin to ask these questions to myself . Are these Mission just a place of employment only for a selected few castes and priviledged people? Aren't there people from other groups or castes also in Nepal qualified to work in these Missions/embassies abroad? Why is it heavily dominated by one or two groups? I must be BLIND not to notice such obvious dominance, and knowing so, one must be bias not to speak of such an imbalance. Is this how the hard earned foreign exchange is used to support these do nothing people? Is this how the poor Nepali taxpayers' money is utilized to support these staff? What are the achievements of these Missions and Embassies other than serve as station master for visiting dignitaries and family members? Will we miss anything by not having them? Finally, if Nepal is truly a country of all ethnic groups, equal opportunities must be accorded to all Nepalis belonging to different ethnicity to represent the country. No one can say that there is dearth of qualified people from other groups. For obvious reason, I know the thought I presented here will not go well with many of you who are reading it but truth be told. It is time that Nepal decided on breaking the dominance of just a few groups in such jobs. I watch every list of appointments that comes from the government. I watch every list of scholarships awarded. If Nepal is to fear anything, it is not Maobadi or foreign agression. It is not even the downfall of the economy nor the bad governance. It is the ethnic problem that is brewing up from inside due to non-attention of the succeeding governments. It is due to the sheer negligience of the various disechanted ethnic grops by governments in sucessession. You talk to some of the ethic groups in Nepal who are educated or not-educated, they are really feeling the pinch of such negligience and prejudice. They feel not only neglected but the dominance by the ruling groups are so heavy that they are silenced in some ways. However, just know the fire is still somewhere under there slowly coming up... Sorry to sound it like an alarmist but this is the real problem that Nepal will have to face. If not attended to in time, it has the potential of taking the shape of worse than what we see and read abut the Sri Lanka ethnic problem. What say you?
