Love, patriotism, ..... true life in G. Shah’s songs

By A Staff Reporter
Kathmandu, Jan 9:

Take pride in being a Nepali
Be proud as a son of Nepal
Nothing can be greater
Than being a Nepali …

When G. Shah’s national songs were played at the Royal Nepal Academy auditorium today, the audience looked spellbound in attention. Each word and each bit of rhythm would mean something deep, giving a greater sense of being a Nepali. The entire atmosphere was somber yet enlivened with meaningful melodies.
The littérateurs, artistes and intellectuals, gathered there, listened to the national songs as if they were impressed at the depth of meaning G. Shah meant to convey.
Senior critic, former editor-in-chief of this daily, Dr. Taranath Sharma looked for words in appreciation of the songs. "I feel totally void in the ocean of his words. The entire world is there. It has love. It has patriotism and it has all kinds of modernity blended with love and patriotism. There is a real philosophy of life – a true life," Dr. Sharma analysed.

In fact, these songs want to move the hearts of the Nepalese and to inject fresh blood in their veins, to make them realise the essence of being a Nepali.
Another critic Dr. Ballav Mani Dahal noted that G. Shah’s songs have a great significance in literature. Similarly, Yogesh Vaidya, a renowned singer, highlighted the dimensions that these songs add to the repository of Nepali songs.

Raj Parishad Standing Committee Chairman Dr. Keshar Jung Rayamajhi, who released an album of G. Shah’s national songs, also spoke on the occasion.
Bhim Kharel, author of G Shah’s literary works, also expressed his views.

Although I see the above news (and the event it describes) as a farce, one of G Shah's song "Mero aanshu ma nahanse...ghayel yo deel k hansthyo" (by Yogesh Baidya) is pretty good.
