As all of us probably know by now that schools in Nepal are closed
now because of threat of Maoists. The Maoists,in their typical
cultural revolution style, have subjected honest principals and
teachers into their revolutionary opprobrium, and challenged
the nation's elected government.Respected and powerful Kantipur
daily has termed it a 'threat' and 'terror' in today's
publication.No one could agree less.

Yet,in retrospect,I have found some interesting facts. In Panchayat
era, once I couldn't go to my highschool in Chitwan because a monthly
fee raise of around 10 Rupees was slapped in highschools and
students had organized strike in protest. The strike ended for more
than fourty days. The organizers:old good boys from Akhil and Nebi
Sangh!

I can't remember anyday that I have attended my class in Ascol
just after 2046 'kranti' with certainty.Always nebi-akhil fight!
Hence the injection of politics in Nepali education is not an
unique phenomenon!

And hey, what our government had done? All along I believed that
our secondary level education was free.Maoists are simply forcing
government to corroborate its own claims,as I can guess now.

I am against free or cheap college level education, but I think
we need free education until highschool.

Hey Bhagwaan!

Now, why close schools? China was on the verge of collapse when the Cultural Revolution was over-looks like nepal will break into 22se 24se rajya by the time this Maobadi revolution is over!

Kam-se-kam they should spare the schools!

Trailokya:

Where were you when Deng Xiaoping died? If you were in Shanghai,
then you should remember that no schools were closed for his
memorial service. In my class, one class conflicted with the time
and the teacher rescheduled the class to the following saturday
(bu ke).ta ma de..

Or in Nepal, schools are the first target to close! Even if the
corrupt minister like Gobinde,Gachchadare,Khume etc dies of some
disease, they will close schools at least one day.

And if king sing (hopefully ,he lives long enough! I don't
support his authority, but he is a nice guy and is suffering from
heart problem,so needs sympathy btw) dies, they will close for two
weeks(I have heard)! That in the country where communists fetch 40%
votes in general elections..
