" Your Country Got Problems And Issues !! " ______________________________________________________ There are times when you know something, its with you in the back of your mind, lingering in your thoughts, but you have not realized the full extent of it. Well, it was during a South Asia Club meeting at my college. We were discussing about South Asia, its member countries, social and economical conditions, politics, etc. The initial discussion was concentrated on whether Tibet should be free or if its better off being a part of China, a spin-off which started with a casual talk about the upcoming Bollywood movie Asoka, and its producers meeting Dalai Lama. Then as if this "Free" thing was not enough, it digressed to the Indo-Pak conflict, with the Pakistani agenda being a free kashmir, and the Indian voice at the meeting being, yeah.. free kashmir, but from the interference from pakistani interest groups and terrorists. The major portion of the discussion was concentrated on this, and I was listening to all this wih much interest, giving my opinions now and then, but all throughout the thought that was lingering in my mind was.. " You guys got problem, dudes. Your countries should seriously think of settling it some way. " Then it happened. From nowhere, someone suddenly snapped.. " Hey! Nepal got problems too!! Nepal got some issues and problems. Lets talk about that too. " I was like.. "WHAT.." Then it showered from others too.. " What about the Royal massacre? Who did it?" I wish I knew. " What was that Nepali guy, the one who boarded the plane with all those guns and.. " Yeah, he indeed was almost as fully armed as keaneu Reeves in Matrix, was all I could think. " What about the Maoists? Are they gonna achieve their aims? Who supports and sponsors them?" Huh ! I dont know. Maybe one of your country's governement has a better answer, I thought. The list continued.. But I was unable to utter a word. I was just too stunned. It had indeed HIT me. Hit me hard. I finally realized fully that my country sure got real problems. While before I used to think that those were reserved for some middle east countries, some African ones, and maybe even India and Pakistan, I had never exactly thought of my country as a tumultous, troubled country. Previously, if any negative issue was talked about Nepal, it was poverty. I could fend that conveniently by saying that.. "Well, at least almost all of our people got enough to eat.. Not like in some of your countries where there's a five crore bulding standing there, and less than five minutes away from it, there are starving people who havent eaten well for five days.... " I could not speak anything now. Was simply dumbfounded. I did not even want to talk about the issue then. So I excused myself by promising that I will talk about it all later when I organize some Nepal Night, and perhaps even give some kind of presentation on it. I even promised to make them a Nepalese dinner which pleased everyone, and changed the topic.. to dont know what.. I think back to Asoka movie, and Kareena Kapoor. Well, coming to the main topic, we all become conscious and feel ackward while talking about those issues... Royal Massacre, maoist insurgency, subash gurung and so on.. We prefer to make ourselves believe that we dont have much problems.. Hell, WE HAVE ISSUES AND PROBLEMS.... We got a STATE OF EMERGENCY declared for chrissake.. Well, those were few of my thoughts, incidents and feelings.. How do you feel when someone wants to talk with you about the issues? What do you think of those issues..? Would be great to hear from sajha.com folks. Regards, moderator, http://nepal-usa.cjb.net
