I really enjoy the selected posting that you post under
"FEATURED POST". It must be time consuming for you.
Why don't you make this automatic and let readers
select / elect the posting to be put under FEATURED,
the headache will go out. At least you don't have
to sort out, when you are busy. The following
procedure may be applied:
1. In each posting you can put one "CLICK" to nominate
the posting as post it under FEATURED POST ...
2. Who ever gets highest score, i.e. one vote per
Registered user / or IP address. My guess is IP
address is more reliable than registered user, or
else you Registered user and IP address both.
3. Highest score? Its difficult. So, it up to you to
decide how many days should this post be under
FEATURED SECTION. Well, some posts may deserve
for week, others for a day. The best way we do
in data sorting is give "weightage" to the clicks.
Like
Today and yesterday clicks = 3 score
2-3day back clicks = 2 score
before that = 1
Thus, some postings that have been clicked by 99 visitors
about 5 days back has same chances of staying
under featured section as 33 persons click only
today and yesterday. Well, if no one clicks on such
posts, you might be reading some like now, and
just your click might put it under FEATURED SECTION.
Meanwhile, as a webmaster, you can give your click
equivalents to 10 or 20, so that some silly set of
peoples don't ruch their filthy postings under
Featured section, who might try to misuse or fail
its weakness. Well, you can even ban such mis
users ' IP address or registered username from
next time.
Let readers choose what to post and what not
to post under Featured section. Meanwhile,
you can even have specialized Featured section
under each GROUPS, so that, it become
context oriented.
Do not forget that the postings that was posted
in SEX section (which requires age verification),
does not appear on main page's FEATURED
section, just because it got high score. So, it
might create flames against you by the parents
who allow their kids to roam your site. So, such
sections should have another "IF" checks that
any thing appeared under this section, can not
contest with other groups.
Well, demanding is very easy game, and its what
we used to when we were in Public colleges,
enter into Campus chief's room, break his room
glasses (indeed my classmate smashed window
glass when we entered in Dean's room, shame
on us), but, its really a tough job to fulfill
"every demand by everybody all the time".
Demands never cease, so, its priority. What
is today's prioity should control what demand
you want to fulfill. So, don't rush to fulfill my
suggestion/demand, but, just try if you can in
your free time.
You will need to buy time, to get others input
in this section. Thats what I have learned from
my own kids. When I enter into a shopping mall
like "TOYS 'R' US", and you know its a shop your
kids wants to have all the things at your home,
provided their parents have enough money.
In the beginning when I started to shopping with
them when they have grown up to demand themselves,
they asked to buy whatever they saw first,
well, I bought it... because they cry ... When,
they moved to another corner, they found another
interesting thing, they asked for it, and if you
deny they will ask you return the previous one
and buy the new ... The chain goes on as long
as you give them freedom to choose .....
After certain hit and trial, I finally, got a new
idea where I told to them, you one quota
for today, show go on watching the things you
like keep on moving and select only the best one
and don't forget to give a price ceiling "X00" rupiya
/yen/dollar, so that they don't demand the things
thats too expensive. When they see a very good
thing but, want to buy it sacrificing all the things
in days to come (next day shoppoing ), so that
makes another trouble. In that case, you have
another big day i.e. Birth day. You can suggest them
to select a good item for your next birthday. Thus,
the expensive items will also be freedom in their
selection and dream and as time pass it goes on
changing and finally, they get the best out of
years selection. While enjoying the weekend
celing based shopping.
I mean don't rush to satisfy all the demands
all the time, and some may become no so useful
in long run . . . . .
