Remember the chaos of Paris around 1789 as depicted in "The tales of two cities"? The more I think, read and listen about Nepal, the more Paris of two hundred years before comes to my mind. Anyone can do anything with impunity, notwithstanding what our army would like to hear. Number 1 fallacy we have in our mind is Maoist problem can be solved i) by providing unrestrained authority to Royal Nepalese Army. ii) by bullets and helicopters. And that the following approaches will be conducive in achieving the goal of exterminating these bloodthirsty insurgents: i) Muzzling press ii) fettering Oppositions iii) suspending civil rights. 'Kirnaa' are some small parasites that reside on the body of buffalos in Terai. They are very disgusting to look at, and to treat the kirnaas, first thing the buffalo keeper needs to do is to provide safer and cleaner facility to the buffalo. Buffalo can't be treated of 'Kirnaa' while it is living in dirty sooty dungeon. The same thing applies to our government.I mean , look at this government, this government is nothing but the travesty of democratic government. All these damn congressis are doing is to suck the national coffer. They have recently slashed the budget sent to villages, raised taxes, but NO, not a single feckless blood-sucking minister was thrown out of the council of ministry and the black slick imported car. I have no qualm in my mind that the Maoist problem can't be solved in this situation. It is not a simple problem initiated by BR Bhattarai or Prachanda, let's be clear. Even if the two yield, Maoists won't lay down their arm, and someone else would be a leader. That's why they yanked their 'discussion' drama out of air last time. The root problem is an intractable one. The root is the time-honored tradition of : i) lack of democracy in the country. Where wealthy people get richer, and poors get poorer.Poors don't get justice unless they bribe people for that. ii) lack of concern for poors, low castes, and festering disgruntlement among janajaati people that they have been cheated, that nation's resources are not shared fairly. iii) the tradition of using national coffer for personal caprice of kings, and some leaders. Unless Prime Minister, King and every body who is ruling now sit down and make unilateral decision on sharing power and resources among the cross section of populace, and on empowering independent government bodies like Akhtiyaar Durupayog, this Maoist problem can't be solved. Anybody hearing news in Radio Nepal these days? I am tired of hearing number of people killed each day. It is just like listening to 'latest score' and I am disgusted at the way those figures are presented everyday. I think we need a new approach in solving this problem now.
