****************************************************************

DATES, VENUE, SCHEDULE
The Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival will be held
four days running, 5 thru 8 December 2002. The venue is the
Russian Cultural Centre in downtown Kathmandu. The Centre has
two halls, one seating 200 and the other 50. A convenient well-lit
lobby allows for informal meetings and exhibition space. There is a
cafeteria and rooms for workshops.

The festival will open on the evening of 5 December, Friday. Films
will be screened back to back on the following days. Screenings
will be followed by discussions. Time will be set aside for guest
lectures and presentations. The organisers will facilitate maximum
interaction amongst the participants during the festival to provide
an impetus for a qualitative and quantitative improvement of
mountain films.

CRITERIA
Films made after 1 January 1998 are eligible for entry. To ensure
that the full flavour of mountain filmmaking will be available to the
participants and audience of the Kathmandu International Mountain
Film Festival, there is no bar in terms of discipline, genre, length,

shorts, animation or experimental art forms. The organisers expect
the entries to cover the entire gamut from ethnography to
mountaineering, from the investigative to the abstract, from the
reportial to the introspective.
