Hello! I like top 10ten things, as Arnico once said that he also liked my top 10, I have not mistaken what he said in the earlier posting. Thanks to Arnico. Top "20", I am wondering, Why 20? Why not its just 10 or 100, and lets list all whom we think are respectable Nepalis. I would prefer "Not to include" someone who has blood relation, not the blood relation like in Arab or in Japan. Just like in Nepal. Babu ko satpuste and Amako Satpuste, well, gai becheko nata is just fine. Because someone might be respectable while "GAI Bechda". LEts have fun on this topic. I think listing 20is too narrow and we may not have enough information, lets make it either "My top 20 respectable persons in Nepal", or better make 20 respectable person in different field and we take top 1 out of those top 20list and make a final top 20 list. Here is mine: (in modern Nepal, i.e. after 2007saal Fagun 7 gate) (so all sahids before 2007.11.07 not listed, even Tribhuvan) in Education: 1. Late King Birendra: for integrating the education into main stream education from fragmentation. In Politics 2. Late PM BP Koirala 3. Late King Mahendra 4. Late Subarna Samsher In literature 5. Mahakabi LP Devkota 6. Bal Krishna Sama In History Book writing 7. Babu Ram Acharya 8. Lain Singh Wangdel In Recent Politics 9. Sher Bahadur (since last Aug.) 10. Ram Chandra Poudel 11. Makune ji In Medicine 12. Dr. ...Devkota 13. Dr. Vaidya In Engineering 14. Dr. Mukunda singh Pradhan, Pulchowk Campus Chief 15. Mr. Bhuwanes .. Singh Pradhan (Former Water Resource Ministry Secretary) 16. Dr. Sujan Malla (now working in Electrowatt Corporation in Swiss. ) One of the structure designed by him was recognized as one of the best ..... (top 10).... I forgot the list. In Law.. Law ma ta nyayadhish dekhi lawyer samma sab ghus khane ra khuwaune matra garchan. Sab chor ko darja ma parchan. I have no list In Biz. Don't know respectable Biz. personality. In Science and technology. 17. Kathmandu Univ. President (VC) Sharama ji. 18. 19. 20. ... .... .... 88. Dr. Pratush Onta ... :::: 99. Mr. Ashutosh Tiwari ( I guess he comes within top 2 digit respectable persons list). Ashu don't indulge in illegal stuff and tax invasion, I mean don't let me down. HahooGuru

My incomplete and unranked list (I have avoided those already mentioned): 1. Dr. Devendra Raj Pandey 2. Pradeep Nepal 3. Kuber Sharma 4. Pradeep Giri 5. Madan K. Bhandari 6. Mahesh Acharya 7. Nabin Bhattarai 8. Narayan Gopal 9. Kapil Shreshtha 10. Anuradha Koirala 11. Bandana Rana 12. Hari Pande (although he is a local hero, I really admire his work ethic and how far he built his "empire" from scratch) And then there are people who have genuinely influenced me, they are just regular people with high morale and stand who have stood up even when the forces against them were ready to blow them apart.

Parijat. She is my ideal. Her writings styles were evocative, seminal and innovative. She displayed stamina in the face of adversity. When she died, among her legacy was a NGO that cares about the children of jailed people, which her sister takes care of now. Rest of my ideals: 1. Babu Ram Acharya, the historian. 2. BP Koirala, the writer. 3. Baikuntha Manandhar, the formiddable marathon runner. Few more people I respect: Daman Dhungana, late Madan Bhandari, Narahari Acharya for their persistence in what they believed, for moderating the extreme elements in their parties etc. Late Mahendra Narayan Nidhi for his commitment to spread 'unified Nepal' sentiment across Terai region.

Mr. Ashutosh Tiwari ( I guess he comes within top 2 digit >respectable persons list). Ashu don't indulge in illegal stuff >and tax invasion, I mean don't let me down. Hi Hahoo Guru, Thank you for your endorsement!! Don't worry: I will NOT let you down by "indulg[ing] in illegal stuff and tax evasion" and all that stuff. Ashutosh Tiwari saying this is like the very Devil quoting the Vedas. You, Ashutosh, stink to high heavens. You might fool the world, but can you fool yourself ? From how many people have you borrowed thousands of dollars and then escape to Nepal ? Compared to you, the likes of Govind Raj Joshi are almost honest. oohi ashu ktm, nepal

Good. Good. I just love it when I can drive the USUAL SUSPECTS this crazy with unexplainable rage and hatred. Their rage and hatred -- understood i the context of genetics -- are morbidly fascinating. Carry on with your attacks, folks, just carry on. I say this because you all know that this is NOT the first time I am attacked here in this forum. Nor is this going to be the last time I am going to be attacked here. Hey, just another day in the Web life of Ashutosh Tiwari, and tomorrow is a another day altogether . . . and life goes on just fine. Truth be told, I am NOT at all worried about some anonymous cyber-attacks by, for instance, a vertically-challenged, double-faced computer programmer or, to cite another example, by some emotionally loose state-employee constantly masturbating over some imaginary past grudges against me here in this forum. These anonymous gentlemen nown to all, my dear readers, deserve pity and compassion and - yes -- a clean supply of Fruit of the Loom underwears. Like I said, we all need entertainment. This was my bit. Please add yours, and let's all laugh and smile togeteher. oohi ashu ktm, nepal

Since this post started I have been thinking who I can respect in Nepal. First I thought all the 'good' leaders in different political parties. And I thought again, can I honestly respect them ignoring all the scandals and the alleged corruptions. I don't know how much of it is true. No body has proved their guilt nor their innocence but the big houses they build and financial gained they gained within few years of democracy restoration gives me enough proof to doubt their honesty. I may be generalizing here but I could not find any one, from Girija, Deuba, MKN, Bamdev to Maoists to the King who I can honestly say I respect them. Then I started to think about all the famous people who are well named and well linked. As I started to realize there is no body who I can honestly say I respect. Fearing to sound too arrogant, I searched even harder. I try to force myself, there must be some one who I can honestly say I respect this person. But all those searchese went in vain. As my search went on, I started to doubt my humility. Suddenly I realzed I was searching in wrong places. I started to think about all the ordinary people who are living in miserable condition. Going on with their lives, finding hope to live even in hopeless situation. Poor and beaten by the hand of 'Karma', taken advantage by every leader who came to rule them, still seeing the reason to live on next day hoping that tomorrow will come and bring the new day with new light. These are the people who make the country live next day. These are the people whose back leaders and famous people ride to climb into their next level. This make me realize how much these people deserve our utmost respect more than anybody else for seeing roses among the thistles, finding excitement amongst apathy. Further on my search I found, all known and unknown martyrs who died not for the fame, fortune but for the cause they beleive just and necessary. I also find people like Laxmi Prasad Devkota whose legendary literature still shines as the best in the Nepali history. I started to find more like him who gave all they have to the country and the people. I realized there are millions of Nepali people who deserve our heart full of respect.

I have to disagree with the above comment. The reason you say you respect the common people who have endured all the evil that came along the way is becasue you feel sorry for them. I don't see that as respect. You respect someone (nationally) who can rise above challenges and move to a higher level. Surviving the perils and not doing anything about it is just pathetic. This has always been my biggest source of dissapointment in my country. I haven't found any national figure TRULY WORTHY OF RESPECT.
