I am thinking about applying for a green card. I have someone who will sponser me but the problem is I do not where to start. Can anyone give me some credible information on this. How does the personal sponsership work? What are the criteria? I would really appreciate your help.

Applying for a green card consists of 3 main stages: Stage 1: Labor Certification. You apply to the department of labor to show that you will be given fair wages. You can either apply Regular - which might take about a year or more, or you can apply as a reduction in recruitment case, in which case your company has to advertisse for the job position and this will get done in 6 months or sor.. Stage 2: Acceptance of form I140 - takes from 6 to 12 months Stage 3: Change of status to Greencard. You can either apply for an adjustment of status in the US - which might take about 1 year. BUT, in 2 to 3 months you get a work permit that let's you and your wife work anywhere! AND after 6 months of application, even if you are fired from the company that is sponsoring you, you still get the green card in it's due time. For stage 3, you can choose to apply in Nepal itself. It takes about 4 months to get the green card if you apply for the interview in Nepal. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know how to get a Birth Certificate from Nepal? As far as I know Nepal didn't give them out before. Has anyone needed this? How have you gotten it? Any info appreciated..

Depends where you were born but Teaching Hospital, Prasuti Griha, they all do. If you need it fast, just pay someone. ;) For those over-sensitive ones but normal pace there would mean weeks (if at all!)

You can get your birth certificate from the local nagar or gau palika office. If you need the certificate for immigration purpose, I suggest you to get an affidavit from both your parents. US immigration agency does not recognize the birth certificate with out the affidavit. Hope this helps. sangam.
