Another Scandal: Will it Go Away or Will it Be the Waterloo? When Clinton scandal broke out I was in Europe and could not understand what they were saying on TV. I would log in and read and read and in t the evening give reports to my amused husband . Let me emphasize something here: I was not so much interested whether he had had sex with Monica Lewinsky or not , or if he did what kind. I was just spell bound the turn this whole saga was taking. Republicans going after starting back to his candidacy and hitting a gold mine when he lied to the public when he said, “ I did not have sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky.” I thought and still think he was a great president with an unchecked appetite for sex. He has a complex issue with women ( please check with psychologists what they say for I am not one) I was amused and disgusted with his adversaries how badly they wanted to kick him out of the office. He served nonetheless all eight years and history will judge him his true failures and achievement. Now comes Enron. Just as I was mesmerized with the Impeachment saga I am now with the Enron. True it is much more complicated that simple sex, lies and videotape and Republicans blood-thirst, but just as intriguing and more disgusting in a gut level. It has greed, capitalist rushing for bottom line and complete disregard for “little people” and the list goes on. Wherever I see an ‘E’ all my senses start to perk up. E for Enorn, E for energy task force, and E for ChEney. Yeah, yeah, I know C for Cheney but somehow E still stands out. Could it be that his party got 1.6 million from his undisclosed boss? I don’t know, I don’t know. Now General Accounting Office is suing White house for not disclosing what went on in that secret meeting where Cheney met Enron executives to get advice how to make new Energy plan. Where to drill and which part of the earth should not be declared protected land. So far one death (an apparent suicide), Thousands of lives ruined, Executive from Anderson invoking fifth amendment, Class Action suit and many more. What will it be? Is it really just another financial scandal as the republicans trying hard to convince we the people? Or is it much more? You know, you scratch my back and I will yours. Just give us money to our “cause” (a very legal thing in this country –called campaign donation), and we will see what we can do for maximizing your profit. The presumption that if people find out you have been cooking up your book, robbing your own employee, and telling the average Maye that she doesn’t understand, that this is the new economy [ One of the executives used to say “Enron is virtually integrated,” as if it explains everything what they were doing.. ] then schmoozing and giving money right and left to the politicians who will come in handy is subversive and another side of unchecked free-market thought. As George Bush said even his own mother-in-law lost 8,000 dollars [my god!!! Is that right? All 8000 dollars????????], I had no stake on Enron’s stock. George Bush is “outraged!” he says. Hey, come here Georgie boy. Lend me your ears… here.. psssstt, “DO YOU HAVE ANY SHAME?”
