I have run into several people in the chat room who come up to me and say "i hate you" and when i ask why they say "cause u are a jhapali". not only in chat rooms but in other places too. and almost all of these people are from ktm. is there somoething that people from ktm have against jhapali that i am not aware of of? maybe u folks from ktm can clear this up. ur feedback would be much appriciated.

I've heard that they have a bad reputation over at Baghbazaar with renting rooms and that they are very cunning....which is totally wrong and is only somebody's bad experience. It is just like some one giving nepalis from Darjeeling a bad name. In fact just last weekend I had a discussion with a friend when he started with "pachhatter jilla dekhi chhayatter jilla chei nahune."

Pokhrelile Syangjaka lai Jaali Fataah vanne chalan cha. Syan'jali' thus jali and fataah.

I can think of several reasons:

1. If you go from the east to west, you will see all these Jhapali's with their hotel along the highways. They are like "ghate's". The bus are made to stop at their place and a 9 rupiya rara chowchow is 15 ruppe. Hoina Haahoo dai?

2. All the UML big Netas are from there. Cunning "comrade" politicians represent Jhapa. KP Oli, CP Mainali, RK Mainali etc. all sound very "fataish".

3. Jhapatira dherai Kumai Bahun chan, Kumai bahunlai kasthamandap ra "purbiya" pachimeli bahunle dekhi sakdainan ke.

Most of the people (no generalization here - just an assumption) who hate Jhapalis are people who are from Kathmandu. The people of Kathmanu think that civilization and modernization are born only in the valley of Kathmandu. Little do they realize that wrapping themselves in name brand clothes, fumbling their steps in the disco and racing the streets are no aspects of modernization. They are so conservative in their thoughts and so much on to the show off business that they will search for any occassion to dispose their wealth, be it even be borrowed. If you look at the fact, the people of Kathamandu rely on the incoming people from the other parts from Nepal (majorty from Jhapa) for their major source of income - renting off. How can Kathamnduties digest the fact that these people coming from Jhapa live in their houses as renters and still outcome them in the fields of job market & music market ?
One of the top reasons why the people hate Jhapalis are because the majority of the educated people in Nepal are from Jhapa. People in Kathmandu do not like the Jhapalis, becasuse almost all the jobs in Kathmanu are taken by Jhapalis. If not for Jhapalis, the Kathmandu people would be minus their monthly rents - sole source of income for most of the Kathmanuities. Kahtmanduties feel threated by the Jhapalis for their territorial security. Look at Kathmandu in Dashain and Tihar - the streets are empty...
Bad Netas are not just born in Jhapa. Bad Netas are born every where in Nepal. In 21st century, you are talking about 'Kumai Bahun'. This itself is enough to shed light on how conservative and sterotyping your little brain is...

Crazyhorse:

I will refrain from 'gaali galauj', but my reply was to the question asked. The question itself lacks credibility here. I think the person "Jhapali" who put the question here was to see what perceptions are there that "generlizes" people to hate "Jhapalis".

The points I provided are some of the perceptions and not necessarily how I act on them. There was another posting which asked "Can Nepali Think?", I replied to the brother with less enthusiasm, but now you have really made me think- Can Nepali really think?

hmm limit 3...I could not let go of this comment your friend made on chyatter zilla.
So many have lovingly called Darjeeling as chyatter zilla and I, for one, take this positively. How else could you welcome people from another place? This is one of the most accepting phrases I have heard so far. At least they acknowledge that we from Darjeeling, are Nepalese :). Of course, this is in my good days :).
During my bad days, I think people making such comments are NOTHING OTHER THAN JEALOUS that we have had a much more open upbringing (those of you in the states BEWARE - as you guys are fast getting labelled as being khub amrikan bhako) and have had the opportunity of being educated elsewhere other than Durbar school and the likes of other such public schools. (with no malice meant to Durbar school attendees and bhut purwas, I know of no other public schools in KTM).
St. Mary's girls, St. Xaviers guys and BKNS people are targetted too, in other way, khubai English bolnu khojcha ityadi...bhanchan. Other than ignorant, how else would you term such people JHAPALI??
