I was trying to understand why the US was putting Al Qaeda prisoners in a base in Cuba. I'm guessing that they don't want the prisoners on US soil for security reasons. I thought that Cuba and the US were sworn enemies so how does US have a base in Cuba? Any ideas?

US leased the land in 1910s from Cuban government. And the treaty says that as long as both countries don't agree on terminating the deal, the land will be leased by US.
