Hi everyone, If you want the ultimate thrill, the last great adrenaline rush, go for bungy jumping at The Last Resort -- an adventure garnay place on the way to Tato Pani in Nepal-Tibet border in Sindhu Palchowk Zilla . . .about 3.5-hour drive from Kathmandu. The ast Resort has what is supposed to be the highest and the most spectacular fixed place on the planet to bungy jump from. Three friends (Salil, Neeraj, Bhaskar) and I spent last Saturday bungy jumping from the Swiss-made and New-Zealand-mangaged suspension bridge atop the roaring, swirling, gurgling, swishing naked Bhotay Koshi River. Our bungy masters were two gregarious Kiwis and one former Israeli commando . . . all with a sense of adventure and a dollop of fun. The jump experience, though scary at first, was out of this world. The height each of us jumped from was: 500 feet or 160 meters. (The Statue of Liberty is 301 feet tall; a 25-story building is usually: 250 feet tall). From the jump platform, set up in the middle of the bridge, all one could see was the electric blue sky above, and foamy white running water underneath. Staight ahead were the mighty green hills and stern craggy rocks -- silent witnesses to the madness we were about to undertake. The jump itself was smooth and soft. You get to the edge of the jump platform. You jump into the river. You fall down, head first. You scream. You say to yourself, "Man, I am actually falling and I am going to smash my head against that big boulder in the water there." And you begin to see everything in soft blurry liquid form. All within a shred of a minute. Soon, you feel yanked up. You bounce in the air. Once. Then twice. Then again. You look up. You see your pre-jump friends waving at you from the bridge. You wave back, and shout with joy. Soon, you feel your cords being lowered for a safe landing by the river. Your post-jump friends cheer, and you do a high-five with the gang. And all along, you marvel at how safe, how smooth, how soft the whole jump experience was. Later, over mugs of San Miguel by the camp fire, you relive the experience all over again . . . in the company of those who are all as excited/stunned and numb as you are on having jumped from the suspension bridge into the Bhotay Koshi River, with nothing but rubber cords tied to your legs . . . The ultimate adventure indeed. For details, check out: www.visitnepal.com/thelastresort oohi "ready to go bungy jumping anytime now" ashu
