I have recently come across a situation where I have not been able to make a decision; thought I would share it with you.
I applied for my work permit around 4 months back but I don't have any signs of getting it. Seems like I need an alternative. Iam thinking of using my S.S No. to work. Would that be a good idea?? what do you guys think?? Please let me know...with a brief explanation of it's pros and cons....Hope I'll have my decision made pretty soon.

hey dude..
seems like u r having the same prob as i had few months ago. but guess what..couldn't help using the s.s.no as i needed to work in order to survive in this expensive american world. so don't worry about the consequences..just use it as all nepalese do..don't be nervous
Dude Posted on 07-Feb-02 03:17 PM

Hey Xena,
I have always laid back. But now,I have come to a point where I need to think twice before I do anything. I do know about Nepalese using the S.S No. for work and stuff. I could do that but I do wanna know the consequences that I have to face in the coming years. Let the S.S No not be something that would screw me up in the coming years. Can anyone let me know about what I will have to go through if I use my S.S No without my work permit???
I am desperately lwaiting for a response.

I think it is usually a bad idea for people to announce publicly, in advance, that they are debating doing something illegal. Do whatever you want, but realize that people may report you and your employer. Xena's admission that she also broke the law is equally foolish, IMO. Btw, it is completely FALSE that "all nepalese" do this.

My advice is contact the person(s) handling your application and request clarification; they might not be able to give you a specific date, but they could help ease your understandable anxiety. Personally, I hope that you get the work permit soon. Good luck!

If you do decide to do this, just know that it is illegal. Also know that it means you stand ready to face the consequences...............deportation and denial of access for many years to come.

Keep it in mind.

Deportation is something Iam aware of. Any other consequences??....what if I don't get deported but still face major hindrances in building up my career in the coming years?? Deportation is a great possibility but ain't the only result that could occur. Need more responses before I take my step. Thanks for all the responses. Greatly appreciated.

Social security number can be used to track you for various purposes, including taxes, social security and medicaid benefits, immigration satus, credit report, resident status, and of course your criminal history record.
Please be aware that what you do now can come haunt you down the road.
