To create such a brouhaha over a mere comment by an actor, even if they were true, is silly and sad to say the least. What, are we now a nation that will not tolerate even an utterance of criticism towards us? If you are so sensitive as to what an actor says, just don't go see his films anymore and protest that way. Organizing massive rallies, banning all movies, and even getting people killed over a mere comment is such a shame. It speaks more about our own incapacity and mindlessness. The irony is that no one has even seen or heard the _exact_ words the actor Hrithik Roshan has allegedly spoken!!

Very well said, Rajendra. I totally agree. No brouhaha, no comment!

I am not saying whether you or Biswo are right or wrong but I support the right to express may it be vocal or silent as long as it is not violent or destructive in nature. As others may say what they feel about us we can also express how we feel about them. As I just said, I do not, however, support the destructive way of demonstration. And please do not tell me what to do. ("...don't go see his films any more and protest that way"). I am so sad that some nepalis lost their lives because of lousy police administration. >The irony is that no one has even seen or >heard the _exact_ words the actor Hrithik >Roshan has allegedly spoken!! Here, may be I am somewhat agree with you. We should have waited to react. We don't know what he said or whether he said what anything about us. Our protest is premature. Nevertheless, now many will know how MOST OF THE NEPALESE (unfortunately not all) feel towards their country as the citizens of it. sparsha

>>And please do not tell me what to do. ("...don't go see his films any more and protest that way"). Probably it is just a suggestion, written wrong way! What about the Bhupi Sherchan quote: "Nepal Hallai Hallaa ko desh ho."This brumal protest in the street of Kathmandu demonstrates clearly that Bhupi was not wrong. If this is demonstration of patriotism , that is fine, but who justifies the mobbish try to burn down Cinema Hall, and police, god the only way to control the mob that they know is firing at them!, brutality in quelling the protest, all because a Bombaya goon said (unsubstantiatedly though) he hated Nepal and Nepalese! Probably this is a form of venting frustration, and wrath against our own government(well, do we have govt in our country?) and against the Indian government which is so rapacious and inconsiderate toward Nepal.

I appreciate Hritik's recent comment that "I love Nepal as much as I love India".(see today's www.timesofindia.com) I think it is great apology. Very few Nepalese are ready to say that much.I now suspect very strongly that the boy didn't make the comment. I am not his fan, anyway. But his explanation is great.

Like yourself, I too support the right to express, and that right applies to Nepali citizens just as well as Indian actors, whatever their position on Nepal maybe. Having a right and excercizing it are different things though. When excersing one's rights, you (you in a general sense) have to be mindful of not taking away someone else's. By imposing a ban on all films, you may be encroaching on someone else's right to view such films. I personally do not like seeing Indian movies and hate the likes of Shah Rukh Khans and Hrithik Roshans. Does that mean I should deny other people to go see a film if they so desire? As an aside, same argument could go for Indian food. Imagine Nepal imposing a ban on serving Indian food in all restaurants! Bottomline is, so what if a puny Indian actor says he dislikes Nepal and Nepalis? His probable contact was only a corrupt customs inspector; the rest of us could simply laugh away at his ignorance. Nepali lives are much too valuable to be wasted on it. My two cents. >I do not agree with yours and Biswo's >attitude.
