First and foremost: learn to speak good English!!! I did not have the opportunity to go to a good school in Kathmandu. I went to a village school and never studied English until later in life. But once I did, I quickly learned that you must not only learn it, but learn it well. It is the international language, and you will be more respected if you speak it well. My wife and I were in a Vietnamese restaurant recently. I was shocked to find the owners had been here 9 years and could hardly say a word. They knew enough to take orders and wait tables. Here in the USA, nobody cares (or even knows) what ethnic group you come from (I am Magar and proud of it). They know how hard you work and how well you speak English. And, educate people about where you from Most people in the USA, I have found, are fascinated. Especially now, if you can show them where you are in relation to Afghanistan (that is all over the maps these days). Don't think Americans are "ignorant" for not knowing where Nepal is. Remember, they have two big oceans on either side of them and are thinking more of Mexico to the south and Canada to the north than little old nepal. Good luck!
