I think it is a mistake to think that Nepali Armed forces are somehow the innocents. Don't forget the atrocities of the 70s and 80s. The oppressions and rapes in locked cells. The beatings and torture. To think that somehow that that will have stopped at the advent of "democracy"in 91 is a fallacy.

At the same time, I would take the report in the above link with a big does of salt instead of just a pinch. It is obviously a propoganda site............. I found the title to be quite deceptive. I guess the Maoists really do think they are fighting a just war and that the lives they take are "collateral damage" and justified. But isn''t it funny that according to them the "human right" violations are only of concerns when the perpetrators are Nepali army or police. It woudl really be interesting to see an account of what the Maoists have done from murder, decapitation, rapes, torture, extrortion, and racketeering.

Well anyhow, if I were the Nepali autorities, I woudl figure out where this site was based and who runs it. I am all for free speech and freedom of press, and would not suggest closing down the site, but rather figuring out how the site admninstrators get the information and keep in touch with the movement so closely.

Obviously it is based in Europe somewhere. Does anyone know about the kind od international support the Maoists hve? i have heard that they have receivecd traingisn from the likes of Tamil tigers and even ex-IRA types, but where are they getting the money from? They must be getting a bunch from somewhere, becuse how otherwise can they outfit remote vilagers into well geared and trained maoist soldiers. And in this climate of anti-terrorism, why is the goverment not trackign down these suipports and putting a stop to it. I am certain we coud get some support from the international communtiy who have a stake in the stability of the region?!

Political power!! that's what. The powers that be have a great big frigging stake in havingt he coutnry in shambles... that way they can keep squirriling away money for their wretchen seven generations to come.

I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooo mad! What is goign to come of thi sbloody situation!! What can we do!!

Come of folks, let's think! If nothing else, let's send a strong letter of concerned as a group of Nepalis living abroad!!
