Chui Baarne is so prevelant in Nepal even in "educated" households? There has been some changes but how far have we come? Some interesting read at Himal Magagine. http://www.nepalihimal.com/fagun1-15-2058/sanchep-kattulay.htm What have some of our females say about this?

Chui Barne is when Women have the MONTHLY PERIOD. In the Himalmag, it talks about how some women in the farwest (Accham, yes the same place of the recent incident) had to stay under the "katero" (hidden place) and not allowed to do a lot of stuff. There was an incident where a guy got married even when the girl had a PERIOD and the whole village disaproved, but says its been better. The women are given special "Kattu" (Maxipad I guess) and are no more "chui barne". I don't know how good this is. At least these women were getting a 3-4 days break in a month from their hectic work. Now with the "kattu" they are working again!

Digital maniac-ji, they never got break from their work. When they are in monthly period and cann't work in the kitchen, they were given a harder work outside. Often they are asked to perfom some tasks dangerous to their health and body at that fragile time - you know carrying manure to the field such hard and likely to be septic work.
