Nepal needs to set new standard on Bus and its long route services. They should be asked to put seat belts, (esp. night bus), they should not be allowed to put stolls (STUUL), and seats shoudl be comfortable. No night bus should be allowed to have passengers standing or without seats. Was there such limit, the number of casualities could have been reduced. The bus drivers in night bus needs to have several years of Bus driving in the same route in day time, so that they remmember all the corners, the way like we reach our home from our regular bus stop without thinking, - equivalent to our usual talk "ankha chimlera pani pugchu", I mean the drivers with enough experience can control bus in each corners and curves. Their driving hours shoudl be fixed. The alcohol consumption should be strictly prohibited and monitored/checked. Unfortunately, the police who is supposed t o check alcohol might himself be drunk. Thats what happens in Nepal. The total hours of driving from departure to destination should be limited. It seems there is competition in reaching KTM fast in minimum hours, it leads 1. high stress on drivers 2. risk of accidents increases. The speed limit should be strictly monitored. When I was on a long trip last month, the bus drivers drive so comfortably here in Japan, I feel "driver bhaneko yasto". Nepal needs public monitoring system, in addition to govt. side. Because govt. side if gets monopoly, that means anther corruption corner. ---- -It can go long. LEt me stop here. HGxP Bus accident toll crosses 50 KOL Report KATHMANDU, Feb 20 – The number of dead in the passenger bus accident that fell into the Tuin River off a bridge Tuesday night in the Mugling-Narayangad sector of the highway has now crossed 50, our reports say. However, our reports quoting police officials also says that bodies of only 37 people, including of a minor and a woman, have been recovered so far. The bus was on its way to Dhankuta from Kathmandu before it fell into the Tuin River at Chandibhangjyang VDC at around 8 p.m. Tuesday night. Until this evening, it is still not clear how many people were traveling on the bus and how the bus crashed off the highway. (sjs)
