If you are a professional and have a Ph.D. degree, you can apply a permanent residency through one of the following two ways: 1. Outstanding researcher/ Professor 2. National Interest Waiver Category 2 is supposed to be easier than the category 1 to get the acceptance. Since you do not need a Labor certification if you have a Ph.D. degree, you can just go and fill out the I-140 form and wait for the approval. It takes about six months from the time of the application until you get the acceptance for the green card. You can apply the green card either through your job or independent of the job. If you do apply through the job, then you cannot leave the work place until you get the final green card. So I suggest what ever category (1 or 2) you apply through, you may want to apply it as independent. Once you get an I-140 approved, the second stage is easier. Let me know if you need any help on that. It is called Adjustment of Status phase (I-485). Generally speaking, if you apply by yourself, you can save as much as $4000. Frankly speaking, the application form can be filled by any body with a college degree. So you can do it!!! Wish you luck, Kali Prasad Does anyone have information regarding Green Card processing (through professional employment) ? In specific, wanted to know about the: -costs(lawyer fees) -lawyer contacts -or could we do it ourselves? -the time span Thankyou for your response in advance.......
