Can you believe this picture ?

Nepal-lover Posted on 25-Feb-02 02:50 PM

it is very sad, wow!
If Nepal is acting like this it is not too far for nepalese citizens to become like that.
Biswo Posted on 25-Feb-02 02:51 PM

A vulture waiting near a dying child in Sudan's famine.

It was so horrifying and famous photo of mid 90s, and was published in either Time
or Newsweek. It always warns us about the effect of profligate leadership and
irresponsible government!

The only question now (for us Nepalis) is what we do about it. We have analysed our problems to death to the point that we take analysis for action. As that tempo driver once said, coming to Sorakhutte ko Ukalo -- Those who want to push, push. those who don't, get out of the way.

It is past time we should be pointificating still.

This picture was horrifying then and sttill is. No wonder the photographer took his own life. Just to see this tragedy in the picture is unbearable. Did you post this to shock us, the visitors of this site? Congratulations! You have succeeded.

Only you could tell, whether your (Horizon's) sole motive was to sensationailize somebody's plight (in this case the whole country's) or to make some other point.
Horizon Posted on 25-Feb-02 05:11 PM

Well, well well. NK seems to be breathing fire today. Anyway to answer your question, I just wanted to put it out there and leave it to one's interpretation. Sorry to make a splash on your bubbly world but my intention was to share the reality and not avert in denial. Now, what is my interpretation on this? It means that I should be thankful for all the little things I take for granted and a permanent mental note - HOW CAN I BE OF ANY HELP. This has made me a stronger person today and reinforced my belief that we all should lend hands and show some compassion to the less fortunate ones. This, I believe is a way to thank GOD for Intrinsic worth ( we could very well have been that little boy by birth) that HE bestowed on us.

Dear Horizon,

It must have been the full moon. WWwwwwwwooooooooooooooooooo.
HahooGuru Posted on 26-Feb-02 06:16 PM

I read this photograph in Time/Newsweek, but,
the caption at the bottom of the photograph was saying that
the photographer rescued the boy. I am not sure whether
TIME/Newsweek was trying to avoid flood of emails
complaining insane journalists or the boy was really rescued.

Usually, when such photographs ( of dying peoples) appear
the reporters or magazines are very careful and they
deliberately (or sorted out) put "The photgrapher tried
to rescue the victim .... ", its a usual "phrase", because
the newspaper or Magazines get flood of mails.now emails
asking the reality, and they don't want public criticisms, but,
I am not sure whether the photgrapher really rescued
the boy. Because in National geographic society's
Videos they never rescue any animals (also people?)
when the viewers would have enjoyed if the victim was
rescued, and they claim its the nature. I am not sure whether
the photographs took picture to the end of boys death, before
his skeleton was left empty. . . .. . . . . . It can not
be verified, and only verifiable was the boy, if he is alive.

It is certainly a shocking picture. But I did not find it less shocking to see that Horizon is, without quite realizing it, thanking GOD for the fate of this child. He thanks GOD for not making us like this child. Conversly, he is thanking GOD for not making that child like us. Who can be more cruel than GOD who created this child and left him in that condition. Look one more time at the picture. Does GOD make any sense ?

I know Horizon did not mean that. But bringing GOD in the scene just makes my belief that there is no GOD.

Nepeji,
Are you trying to prove since a=b and b=c therefore a=c theory ? I think we have had discussion about faith / fate in the past on a different thread. I know we will never fully agree with each other on this but how about we shake on it and move on to other discussions ?
