Mahendra "Honda" Shakya, a former GBNC president, is giving a presentation at Chautari on January 23rd at 5:30 pm. His topic: "The opportunities and challenges of running a business in Nepal: A case of Momo King." Honda, who passionately believes in free markets, entrepreneurship and the idea that the "best social sevice [he] can do is provide somebody a job", is the CEO of Momo King, the chain of Momo Pasals that has occupied a profitable niche in Kathmandu -- BETWEEN the "sandaar momo types" and "Nanglo Bakery types". Honda credits the city of Boston, particularly Cambridge, for the inspiration to start his Momo pasals in Kathmandu. Along with Honda, some of us "markets are better than the govenment" type of people" are pushing to have more business-related discussions and activities so as to to create a loose, informal network of Nepali entrepreneurs to help the businesses. Let's see how this goes. oohi ashu
