Biswo,

I checked with my lawyer friends re: Nepali angi.krit nagarik.ta.
Here is what they say:

HMG can decide, on rare occasions, to give "angi.krit nagarik.ta" (naturalized citizenship) to non-Nepalis under certain conditions.

Prominent among these conditions is that these non-Nepalis must have stayed
in Nepal for 15-20 years, assisting Nepali societies in some way. This long residency requirement is a big hurdle for most would-be Nepalis.

Examples of some previous non-Nepalis who have become Nepali citizens this
way are: some of the Jesuit priests at St. Xavier's, and so on.

This angi.krit nagarik.ta ko provision, these lawyers say, is highly
subjective.

Again, to racap an earlier point, these lawyers say that, as laws stand, there is
no way anyone can get Nepali citizenship based on how much they are going to
or have invested (one karod or more) in Nepal. At best, big investors can try for
residential visas.

Ashu:

I believe your report. I didn't mean to spread error. I am pretty sure I read such
report in a book regarding provision for angikrit nagarikata. Then whenever I saw
advertisements in international papers regarding investment-greencard-citizenship
linked provision, I used to remember that one crore for nagarikata thing.

Well, thanks for making this thing clear.

That's OK Biswo.

One of the benefits of this OPEN and INCLUSIVE forum is that even if we make mistakes (which we all do anyway, from time to time), it's easy to correct ourselves, and let the learning process continue.

I myself have learnt a lot from my various mistakes of facts and judgments
and so on . . . and that's the way learning proceeds.

Anshu ji

I'm clear about Angi.krit nagarik.ta. St.Xavier priests became Nepali by naturalization in Nepal. Can naturalised foreigners in Nepal hold DC if thier country allow it? should naturalised foreigners give up their original citizenship to be naturalised Nepali?

Friend of mine married Canadian girl five years ago. Now they have DC enjoying on it.Can you make clear about it?
