Kathmandu needs to see good, world-class movies
from around the world REGULARLY.

With that premise, the Kathmandu Film Archives,
a joint venture between the GAA and Martin Chautari,
was started last September.

The KFA has so far shown FIVE movies. It has now
struck an agreement with the Russian Cultural Center
to show three Russian movies later this month at the
Russian Cultural Center ko hall in Kamal Pokhari.
The expenses to the KFA are zero.

Some of the movies that the KFA are members are
deliberating are: "Genghis Blues"; "Dr. Zhivago",
"Moscow does not believe in tears"; "War Time
Romance" . . .Let's see how things go.

If you know of good, crowd-pulling Russian movie,
please send an email to Anup Subedi at
emailtoanup@yahoo.com

No work gets done alone.
This agreement with the Russian Cultural Center too
came about because of hard work of Bhaskar Gautam,
Anup Subedi and Himal Association's Basanta Thapa.

Now let the movies start in big 16 and
35 MM screens. . . and we will appreciate the
passion, the grandeur of some of the world's
best movies.

Hi Ashu:

I didn't know Dr Zhivago was made in Russia too. I thought it
to be David Lean directed MGM movie that grabbed five or six
awards, and starred Omar Sharif(Lawerence of Arabia fame). Since
Boris Pasternak's Dr Zhivago was banned in Russia until very
late of Communist regime, the news of Dr Zhivago as Russian Movies
came to me as surprise!

Biswo,

You are right about Dr. Zhivago.

I forgot to say that the Russian Cultural Center
has allowed us to screen BOTH Russian AND
Russia-related movies. It is in this latter
category that "Dr. Zhivago", based on the Russian
writer Boris Pasternak's novel by the same
name, falls.

Thanks for spotting my oversight.

BTW, aren't actors Omar Shariff and Julie Christie
just fabulous in "Dr. Zhivago". Gotta love
this great movie by David Lean.

Ashu:

The movie ,as you can guess, is one of my all time favority
classic.Julie Christie, who played Lara as a young mistress
of Dr Zhivago, made that name famous all over the world in
60s.Moms started giving their kids name 'Lara', and young girls
started adopting 'Lara' as their name.

The only sad thing is Dr Zhivago which won six (or five?) Oscar
awards didn't win in the best actor or the best director catagory.

I am sure people will like the movie very much in Nepal.
