dear leeney, its an irony that no one posts message on this thread started by you, but look at what people have to say regarding a nepali girl with indian boyfriend! anyway, thank you very much for starting this interesting thread. I hope others too will share their feelings towards their "sopecial" (or not-so-special) teachers in this thread. As for me, I don't remember the names of teachers who taught me how to write ABC, ka-kha-ga and count 1-2-3. But I do appreciate their contribution and patience in teching me. Man~! it must have been awfully hard for those teachers to teach nursery kids. And I would also like to mention my profs at college, who helped me in making decisions regarding my career and were always there (and still are) there to help me with things. My favorite profs. with whom I have learned a lot during college include: Nigel Boyle (Prof. of Comparative Politics) He is probably the best teacher in the whole of Claremont Consortium. A nice Irish fellow, a great soccer fan and a great friend of all. Also, a great prof. Students would say that they wouldn't mind taking any class that Nigel teaches. His classes were discussion oriented and he would make every effort to get everyone in the class speak. He also knew tricks to make rather dry political theories classes interesting to all. Ming Fei Gao: Probably the best language teacher I ever had. She was so concerned with her students' progress that she would make us say a sentence in Chinese atleast 20 times, unless we get the correct tones/pronounciation. She was a very hard grader but a very good teacher. Studying with her was attending academic boot-camp, but still we all love her for the effort she put on teaching us Chinese. Emily Chao: My advisor during the college. A field anthropologist and a very good prof. Her classes were hard, but they were always a good learning experince. Its from her that I learned Anthropology and contemporary Chinese society/culture. Even today when I watch Chinese/japanese films and want to know what's the udnerlying message(S) of those movies, I email her with questions, and she always emails me back with answers/her interpretation of the movies. David Noble: A Reputed marxist philosopher who happened to be at Harvey-Mudd during Spring 1998. hew taught classes on marx and technology. Even though he had a socialist tilt, he wouldn't discourage students to put forth their capitalist views. The best thing about this prof. was he didn't have any assignment, or even syllabus for his class. All we had to do wa sread 15 books, and just talk about those books in the class. And the best part.. everuyone in the class ended up getting A. So, these three are my fav. professors. Now moving on to not so fav. prof(s). Arthur Rosenbaum Prof. of Chinese history at CMC. HEy,m if any of you are in CMC and thinking of taking class with this dude.. Please don't. Just get that idea out of your head. Unless and until you want to end up getting a B-, or C albiet hard work and countless sleppless nights reading books on history, you wouldn't want to take his classes. A hard grader, and very unsympathetic towards students' comments. An old-school guy. Trailokya
