Paschim, It's very ingenious of you to advertise your singlehood to dainty damsels out there by way of congratulating Nuru and thanking Kancho. Whatever happened to a certain Miss Uttar you were always talking about? Is she history? If so, well, life happens.

good article it seems - a bit too long for me to read at work. BUT one comment: The writer needs to do some digging into the history of the people of Darjeeling. One word: Sughauli Sandhi! We didn't just happen to migrate to work in the tea gardens of the brits or gai marera muglan paseko! We were THERE when land passed hands. BOTH the governments conveniently forgot about the people who were already living in Darjeeling. The others - Indians and such MIGRATED TO DARJEELING! The NEBULAs where already there!! FYI: NEBULA: NEPALI BHOTEY LAPCHEY JAY GORKHA!(comments welcome on this as well!) :) Cheers

Poorba, you caught me there! Chhainan, kohi chainan - mori haru ek ek gardai bhage. But then my singlehood was not exactly unannounced. If you read my series very carefully, you will also be as confused as myself, "Is it that life imitates art, or does art imitate life?" :) No, Nuru's piece was a treasure, and Kancho's find laudable, and I really didn't have an ulterior motive.

Yup, a good one. Nuru, enjoyed your article on the state of displacement. Let's all enjoy whatever we have, shall we? Let's cherish life itslef. (if you find it this last sentence yet another cliche' then maybe it is. I don't know)

Hi, Writing by Nuru Lamal is itself a shortsighted. He/She has not mentioned all the hardships that every single poor Nepali is bearing all the time in Nepal. Social values in Nepal are a critical issue that tells us what (?) social value has been established in Nepal. You can read the writing on the same page written by Anjana Chalise. It is the counter part of Nuru’s thought. As long as your concern with “dirty” job in America, you are the first one who has distinguished what a dirty job and what is not. For me, job is a ray of hope. You can see several examples that tell you why a job is a ray of hope. It is needless to spell out the name Bill Gates and his job at a garage. As you say, it is a “dirty” job. Every one knows his story and his initiatives in business world. My sisters work in several brothels in different cities and towns of India. Why do we forget them to invite for coming back to Nepal? Why are we giving a higher rank to those people who are living in America? Do you have any answer for this question? However, Nepal has nothing to do with Nepali-Americans. They do not want to jeopardize their future coming back to Nepal. They do not want to make noise in any procession saying “ Ghush Khori Sarkar Murdabad”. Critics……… (note: Nuru may not get to read a single line of this posting. I do not know how I can send it to him.)

A quick reply to the self-proclaimed critic. First answer these questions: How much space Kathmanu Post has do you think for one article? Was Nuru writing a thesis on all the Nepali living all over the world and their socio-economic condition ? Was it a Ph.D. Thesis? Do you know the implication of putting a word inside the inverted comma? The word, "dirty" in Nuru Lama's article. If you answer 'no' to these all above question then your critiqe is just a sham nothing but a sham. It was an opinion and that is all. Everybody, of course is entitled to have an opionion. And lastly not everything that is written here is going to be read by everybody including the originator of an article. What you wrote is your opinion and Nuru Lama does not have to be immersed in so called discussion here in this board even, EVEN IF he gets this article. [Disclaimer: I don't know Nuru Lama personally nor do I know any of his relatives] -NK

poor Nuru, he's probably cringing at being mistaken for a female. I know Nuru personally, and knowing him, he definitely knows the dignity of labor. Though I've not talked to Nuru about his article, I'm willing to bet my last dollar he put the word 'dirty' in inverted commas for a reason (as NK said), and take my word for it, it couldn't have been to demean those who work in restaurants, gas stations, etc. Nuru's one of the most down to earth people I've ever met despite of his accomplishments.
