It's sad to hear all the story about Tourism in Nepal. All now we hears is every body is going out of business and every body are crying. It's is a really sad story but whose fault? ... sept11,mahobadi,RNAC... I don't think so.
I was in tourist related businee for last fifteen years(i am 26),and what i have seen in those years is all fault of ourself. Though little bit is govt fault but main is, all tourism entrepreneur. We always tried to suck their dollar, hate indian tourist(sala dhoti), sala isreli chor,sala hippee.....
For what?
Indian consists more than 40% of total tourist and spending is two times of those of us or japanse tourist, but we allways disrespect them. So why they have to come here?
Isreli, they are still comming and every year they are comming more but we never respect them? because they are cheap? well we have to understand.. most of them who comes to nepal are young kid who just finished army and hardly have money to spend and also they are cost conscious. Also why blame them, price in nepal is 100times diff from one place to other for same product, so they are forced to bargain(this is why we hate them) cause they are clever..
Hippeee or jole, well jole? that means backpacker... how many percent of tourist in nepal are backpacker, rougfly 95%(not including indian) why we call them jole... they are the one who spend more time and more money directly to local people.
We always complain we don't have enough infrastructure to attract business class tourist, well that's true... but do we relise that the most high$ people goes to Dolpo or Mustang? do we relise that? do they care about road,dirt and dirty?
lawmaker in nepal and those top classified business man don't even know what tourist really want's to see in nepal? Then how they can attract tourist?
we don't need big building or big jumbo jet to attract tourist and they don't need convinent(if they need they will go to carebean island for SSS). What i am trying say is that topend tourist don't have enough time and there is little to cover in a week and it is very costly to attract them.
So it is better for Nepal to attract more backpacker and indian tourist
attract local and nebogring countries
but to do business in nepal and survive, we have to have the fixprice and price standard(though it never fix anywhere in world but u know what i mean), we have way too many hotel,restaurant,bookstore,carpetstore,provision store. The only way is to contoll is tax them ,close the place which are illegal(75% of hotel are not registred,80%rest,90%grocery store,45%of travel agency)
and last but not the least respect them pleseeeeee, don't neglect them
there is a old saying from a guidebook of nepal...
we are here to change you,
not for you to change us....
I guess it's time... tourist are here to change us but not here to change themself....
