I second your vote for panche baja. I had one at my wedding, and old-timers and young 'uns alike LOVED it! I can't recall that band playing any of those lousy hindi fleeeem tunes! My take on why "bandbajas" (Isn't that term redundant?) are so popular is that folks like them, many other weddings have them, people are afraid of being judged as behind the times, and well--most folks are sheep (all these are connected.).
