Dear neighbor sharmajee:

First, I looked at your headline and thought, what a generalization! Then I read your text. In your analisis, I noticed that you jump from an individual level of analysis to state level--two totally different things. One cannot use one level of analysis to draw a conclusion about a different level, which you have "wisely" one. Second, your headline suffers from mass generalization, not an indication of a learned individual. When you say "Indians are better than nepalis," that implies every Indian is better than every Nepali. I challenge you to prove such claim. What qualities in an individual do you choose to establish one is better than the other? This is where your point shows weakness. You immediately shift to national level of analysis and give "economy, social life , living standrads" as your criteria. Now these are national level or macro level criteria. So you see, there is a big problem with that.
Third, I checked the latest Human Development Index for South Asia as a whole to verify your claim on how "superb" India is. Here is what I found out.

Rank in World Country Life expectancy Literacy GDP (PPP)

77 Maldives 66.1 96.2 4,423
81 Sri Lanka 71.9 91.4 3,279
115 India 62.9 56.4 2,248

127 Pakistan 59.6 45.0 1,834
129 Nepal 58.1 40.4 1,237
130 Bhutan 61.5 42.0 1,341
132 Bangladesh 58.9 40.8 1,483

So as you see, UN 2000 data does actually prove your claim that India is better off than Nepal--by 14 position. What a great achievement! I congratulate you for India's success, and being a good neighbor, I wish for India's continued success. But I was somewhat saddened to note that even within our "plagued" region, India's quality of life lags behind Maldives and SriLanka's. So by your own logic, I concluded that Maldivians and sri Lankans must be better than Indians, even though they do not have the size, population and resources of a great country like India.

Third, you compared Nepal to a "dick." I hope yuo do have one. For despite being small, a dick is an essential part of a male anatomy. I do not think you would ejoy your "hgh standard of living" without a magnificent presence of a "dick." While we are at it, let me respectfully point out that the so called "nepali girls" who come to India to prostitute, are more or less "coerced, cajoled," or in more appropriate terms, "duped, cheated, and exploited" by some of your esteemed nationals who come to Nepal hills in sheep's clothings to satisfy the ever insatiable needs of your dick.

So before you bless us with your invectives, I hope you can marvel the achievements of India that ranks 115th in the world without having to resort to cutting those down who are already low and beaten up. For you see, a mark of a good neighbor, especially one that is so big, generous, and developed as India, is to help poor, worthless ones like Nepal. Maybe it is Nepal's misfortune that we lack such a country that could be a good friend, brother or a helping hand. Maybe Nepa is down for a reason, I wonder what that is. Could you, in all your "goodness" of being superior to all Nepalis, enlighten us what the most likely reason be, especially in the context of a larger geopolitical framework?

By no means I undermine India's greatness and superb achievement. What if it can't qwelch the fire in millions of empty stomach within your bharat mahan, it can now within seconds scorch millions in the neighbor. Who can underestimate such a feat?

Yes, it is a good advice you give: "go look in the mirror." It might just be wise, once ina while, to act on one's own advice. Happy looking in that great mirrror you have in front of you. We look in the mirror and do not like what we see... do you?

Please use the word - Proufound - a little bit conservatively. What Siwalik wrote was very good. But "profound?" That is going over board if you get my drift.
SIWALIK Posted on 10-Mar-02 04:33 PM

That was not a profound thought, nor was it an original thought. However, people do have to be reminded of cliche, sometimes. Isn't that just ironic?
