Maoists are talking about election of Constituent Assembly. Let’s go back to 2046. After successful people’s movement this present constitution of Nepal was made. But former King of Nepal (NOT by people of Nepal) selected members of constitution suggestion committee to make constitution. As Darbar selected them, they might be loyal to it ( Noon Ko shaojo) and presented palace much power than it deserves. What I am pointing out is the way present constituent made was NOT Completely democratic way. I remember those days even NCP ML (presently NCP UML, they were not unified with NCP, Marxist) was in dilemma about election of constituent assembly.
Now major political parties are changing certain parts of constitution for their own interest. Nepali congress is helping them to save its government. This is ridiculous. Major political parties shouldn’t do that for short-term political benefits. It will start new bad tradition.
What I suggest here is, let’s not change constitution and let’s face reality and go for constituent assembly. The importance of this election of constituent assembly is directly interrelated to democracy as election reflects choices and interest of people.
Now let’s practice democracy and accept the election. It shows what people really wants. I am sure that Maoist will loose election and we can make better constitution. This could be better and democratic way to defect them.
