I have found that Amarujala.com gives a very good coverage of local news from Mahakali districts.

Ever since the Maoists blew up the Repeater station in Darchula, amarujala.com has been the best source of local news of Darchula for me.

Try the "Uttaranchal" section.

It is in Hindi, but most of us from Mahakali are pretty good with it anyway!

Hemendra-ji:

Thanks for the link. I myself saw first-hand how popular Amar Ujala was when I toured our north-western neighborly province of Uttaranchal and Himachal last summer. But allow me, will you, to ponder on a related but distinct philosophical parallel of heavy significance?

Our PM Sher Bahadur Deuba is from Dadeldhura, hence Mahakali. After marrying Ms. Rana eight years ago, Deupa became Deuba - a sakkali Thakuri elevated beyond doubt from a hitherto uncertified status. These days, his wife is alleged to exercise a lot of influence in his conduct of daily affairs.

Hemendra-ji from Darchula, Mahakali is also reported (not in Amar Ujala) to have just returned from a protracted honeymoon. Should this new-found love of his for the newspaper from across the river be interpreted as a subtle commencement of a process whereby a sex slowly submits, as in the process of osmosis, to the gradual, but ultimately conclusive and definite influences of the other sex in what he eats, how he dresses, what he reads, how he walks, how long he snores, where he goes for vacation?

I personally think, it’s a beautiful process. But what I am curious about is why do the greatest of Mahakali legends demonstrate such symptoms with maddening alacrity after the knot is tied? I know, I know, I am just speaking with a flimsy evidence from a sample size of 2. But, hey, what a sample! Hem and Sher - the legends of the zone. Lokendra pales in comparison, and the rest are footnotes, except perhaps my ex-flame, Ms. Bista from Dadeldhura who's now in Kabul.

I am myself from Gandaki, and am considering hooking up with a kanya from across the border. What I want to ask is, are men from Gandaki also destined the same fate as that of men from Mahakali?

In other words, is this disease contagious? Can I expect to be as lucky as you too?

The uncrowned king of the City of Boston, Hemendra-ji, welcome to Sajha. Good to hear from you after a well-deserved and optimally-utilized lull :)

Hemendraji,
I also like Dhinman (www.dinman.com). Yes, it is a Hindi maganzine but is also available in Nepali. I have always read Dhinman. Definitely, it is worth a try and see if you like it.

Dear Paschim,

Well, to tell you the truth, what you term as "osmosis" has already commenced, and it is a marvelous thing, as you claim.

However, comparing my case with PM Deuba's …? He being a public figure, even how loud or long he snores, could affect the daily affairs of our country, but the effect of my such nocturnal injustice would be limited to my house.

And, this love for the newspaper from across the border, although new, is not related to my newfound love from the same.

When I was in Darchula in Feb I found that the only daily newspapers available daily in Darchula are Amar Ujala and Dainik Jagaran. Kantipur, although highly prized, is available only once every 3-4 days. So, the Indian newspapers make a very good effort to cover local news from across the border and other news from Nepal.

Also, I have personal reasons to read Amar Ujala. Being from "Byansi-Shauka", a border community, most of our cheti-betis are married of to Kumaon and most of our Aaamas, bhaujus, buharis, and wives are from our own community right across the river. My relatives are spread all across Uttaranchal and Uttarpradesh, which Amar Ujala thoroughly covers.

Paschim, the uncrowned king of "serious" flirtations - how can you expect to feel lucky by being infected with a contagious "disease"?

Heme, thanks for an honest and convincing response. To answer your last question with a question, ever heard of "prem rog", the disease of love? Boy, isn't it cancerous, and isn't it chronic!
