Dear All,

Himtel has resumed its service to Nepal.

Rate 50 cents per minute. 75cents to mobile.

Calls to Kathmandu complete fine -- 40% call completion rate.

However, calls to outside Kathmandu are extremely difficult to complete. Our carrier is working towards resolving this.

Our current carrier for Nepal is Telstra, an Australian Tier-1 company.

You can call us at 1800 543 6540 or pay online at www.himtel.com

Thanks.

DialNepal.com Posted on 21-Mar-02 02:43 PM

The best card out there is http://www.DialNepal.com

The calls get through to Kathmandu quite well. 2-3 tries might be required but the calls do get through to Kathmandu.

$10 card is at $9.49 and gives 35 effective minutes. Check us out. You could use $5 cards to try with.

And you buy your cards online anytime. You will receive your card in the e-mail.

What about the connection charges?

haveAnyoneUsed Posted on 21-Mar-02 03:35 PM

Hemendraji:

Thanks for your info. More thanks for honestly presenting the situation regarding
telephone service to outside Kathmandu.

I come from KTM and I am really in need of a telephone service that can be used
for outside KTM.

Wish you goodluck.
DialNepal.com Posted on 21-Mar-02 03:38 PM

Divaji:

You can visit our website http://www.DialNepal.com for details but let me explain the charges:

Good Things About Our Machapuchre Cards:

1. No Connection Fee
2. Maxium Minutes when used in a smart way.
3. Your cost comes below 35 cents a minute.

Now your question:
1. Minutes are rounded to the nearest 3 minutes.
2. There is a weekly 99 cents maintenance fee that starts only after midnight of your first use.
The above two costs can be easily avoided to get the maximum minutes. Even if you don't, the card is still cheaper compared to other cards.

hope this helps.

I used dialnepal.com and it worked perfectly for me. I had 70% success rate..

I guess after the fall of himtel's service we will all have to compromise. If not get your self prepared to pay $3/min with local cariers...
Shanti Posted on 21-Mar-02 07:03 PM

Be careful with Gotchas like connection fee and maintenance fee like DialNepal is advertising. It's good to read in advertisement or posters but in reality it really sucks.

Another catch 22 is the minutes starts counting the moment the phone rings and rounding up 3 min.

I'd rather pay couple cents more and get the clean card with no connection, no maintenance, no round ups.

Caller Posted on 21-Mar-02 08:21 PM

I used DialNepal.com phone card and I think it is really a value. I have already used their card twice and the connection and quality was pretty good. I did not like their maintainance fees but if you finish the call the same day (no matter how many times you call) there is no connection fee. 35 minutes for $10 thats good enough for me.

Thank you

I use http://www.infoinform.com/callingcards.html It was not working well for a while so. I took them off from my website and I used Himtel, it was Crystal clear, but their rate was high. At that time there was no service and I sent Himtel email inviting them to advertise, but they never replied.

A couple of days ago my wife bought a card from http://www.infoinform.com/callingcards.html I asked her why she bought a card from them since it was not working. She called Nepal and I talked with my in-laws and it was crystal clear. I could not beleive how it sounded, which used to sound pretty bad.

Guys,

I think you should blindly go for cards from Dhukuti.com . I used them today to call outside KTM and it was perfect: It gives 22 mins for $10 which i think is reasonable comparing to Himtel.
No hidden fees or anything, it has won my trust.

i am using, 'extra mass rhode island card 'for last two month to call nepal.it's run by mci and so far never gave a problem. I have tried ktm, pkr, baglung, narayanghat all place works fine. $5 card gives 34 minutes but the catch is that it bill with minimum of 4 minute increments on every call.
if u live around boston, you can buy from bombay market(somerville)
DSharma Posted on 21-Mar-02 10:47 PM

I have tried a lot of phone cards and I believe that the one from SAM'S CLUB is the best. It's expensive (slightly cheaper than Himtel's and dhukuti's) but the connection is great. I believe Himtel and Dhukuti sell the same card, albeit at a little higher price. Sometimes, you receive messages such as "All International Circuits to the country you are calling are busy. Please try again later" but that is not much of a problem. If you try after 10 or 15 minutes, you get connected. Plus, works very well for outside the valley. Doesn't mean that it does not work for the valley!

you get around 33 minutes for $13.82 (the figures after the decimal may not be exact), 50 minutes for $20.82. I am now convinced that this card is the best when it comes to calling Nepal, especially outside the valley. I tried dialnepal, the one advertised on the nepalworldnews site, dhukuti (this one works well but it's a little expensive than the sam's club cards) and nepalcard (this one works as well, pretty similar to dhukuti) but none of them were as satisfying as this one.
hmmm.... Posted on 21-Mar-02 11:17 PM

Talking about cards again. I have used HimTel, Dhukuti.com and DialNepal.com cards. In my experience, all my calls have gone through (sometimes after numerous tries). I love the $5 card from DialNepal.com though. Its cheap, and although it always seems like I need more time to talk, it keeps me from spending too much on the telephone. I usually make the call in one-shot so their fees are not a problem to me. If I have to make real short calls, I use HimTel or Dhukuti cards.

hmmm...., I am smart ain't I.
Rup Kamal Posted on 21-Mar-02 11:35 PM

Hey I just bought a card from Dhukuti.com. It worked very well. One thing I like is their customer service. Other things once I sign up and got approval, I can buy any time card and do not have to wait for email. Pin number display in the browser. This is the first one I have seen. I feel more secure in my transcation as well. This is the huge store man not only phone card they got a lot of stuff. I used to buy from Himtel and work fine too but it is expensive now. I wish previous chepaer card back but it does not work any more.

It seems that the consensus is that there are a lot of cheap cards you can purchase but the best ones as far as no connection charge and other stuff are at dhukuti.com! Does anyone know if Dhukuti.com is a Nepali owned business enterprise? The site looks great ... If it is Nepali owned ... congratulation guys or gals! You have a great site!
DialNepal.com Posted on 22-Mar-02 02:08 PM

I've never used dhukuti.com phone card but I buy my grocery from there. So far they've been great. The price is about 20% cheaper than grocery store. They have a very good site.

Living in boston I always liked himtel, I wish they had a online service with pin delivery over the browser.

I don't call They Call Me Posted on 23-Mar-02 02:26 PM

Non of the cards work properly. Dhukuti.com cards suck as well let alone the other cards, no wonder they say NO REFUND on cards. I have had terrible experience with all of them, so I have given up calling Nepal.

All though the Dhukuti.com has some grocery items, everything is Indian food, I think they are selling the same food from Namaste.com. The site is well built-- that I will give credit for.

My suggestion, get your folks to call you from Nepal, its 5 times cheaper that way.
Hemendra Bohra Posted on 23-Mar-02 10:07 PM

Dear Boston ko hero,

Himtel's instant PIN delivery system will debut on the Nepali New Year.

You will be able to do the following:

-- buy PINS online instantly 24 hrs a day.
-- check your past transactions.
-- RECHARGE your card instantly -- online 24hrs.
-- view call details
-- setup your personal calendar and get email reminders for your events.

We have a money back guarantee on all our cards. Even if you have partially used your card, you will get your money back (the unused portion), if you demand it.

There is actually some truth in what "I don't call They Call Me" says. Have your relatives call you from Nepal. It is much cheaper and convenient.

But, if you have to call them, there is always Himtel!

Thanks.

Dear Sajha.com visitors,

As most of us who call Nepal have found out in the last couple of days, it has been impossible to call Nepal. It seems that calls aren't going through at all, if any. The problem seems to be on Nepal's side. Our vendors have talked to the carriers and have assured us that the problem is not at the source but the destination. I just tried calling my family in Nepal using my long distant carrier ($1.35 per minute) and still no success.

As far as the phone cards carried by Dhukuti.com are concerned, we demand full refunds (or partial refund, whichever the case may be) from our vendors so we absolutely offer refunds on all of our products, including phone cards purchased at our site. We value our customer's satisfaction and in fact it is the most important thing to us at Dhukuti.com.

As far as the grocery products are concerned, it is true that most of our products are "Indian" groceries. However, we are currently working with some possible vendors for Nepali and other South Asian groceries. Since “I don't call They Call Me” mentioned Namate dot com, I want to inform the Sajha.com visitors that our prices are a lot better that that of Namaste.com.

Dhukuti.com is a conglomerate of Nepali vendors. We are here to allow other Nepali and South Asian vendors to sell their products in the global marketplace. We simply provide the opportunities for small businesses in Nepal and here to vie for the slice of the global ecommerce.

Bhaskarji: Its quite interesting that you mention that here, but below is the copy and paste of your Disclaimer.

Disclaimer: Dhukuti.com is not responsible for lost, stolen or unauthorized use of PINs. Cards terminating at wireless receivers in certain countries and originating from pay phones may be charged a higher rate. Rates are subject to change without notice. We do not provide refunds on phone cards.

---------

So all these people who think the one card is better than other, learn the lesson-- all are same, mayit be HimTel or Dhukuti or DialNepal or Phoneshark or Prepaidonline card or Phone88 cards. Its not the card, whatever is the problem is in Nepal. So it might me who is complaining or Boston ko Hero or someone else, the calls getting through is a problem. Although calls from Nepal are cheaper, they are also sometimes hard to connect. I don't know if NTC is just getting crazy and trying to control all the calls-- why don't they just let it be cheaper to communicate and find some other source of revenue??
DialNepal.com Posted on 23-Mar-02 11:38 PM

We don't know about other cards but our http://www.DialNepal.com cards are connecting through pretty well as of 3/23/2002 22:57:46 CST.

Boston ko Hero ji, yes we do not have a auto-retreival system, but we are currently working on it. We have completed our backend and will be providing full auto-retreival system shortly. As mentioned by other card service providers, the connection to Nepal are not easy all the time. Our cards we have realized have gone through to Kathmandu quite well after 2-3 tries..

We will do our best to make our customers happy and take all your suggestions and concerns seriously. So if you have problems, we suggest you e-mail us and we will do all we can to make you happy. That is our promiss.

Happy Holi.

Mr. "I don't call They Call Me", let me assure you that if there are an technical issues on our carrier's part, we definitely do refund. However if there are no technical issues, due to the resouses required for processing refunds, we do not refund for the sake of refunds.

I don't call They Call Me Posted on 24-Mar-02 06:50 PM

Bhaskarji: I don't mean to say anything bad about Dhukuti.com. I think its a great site and all. I have bought CDs and calling cards from your site before. I just suggest that you don't try and mislead your customers. If you make it clear for us, most of us Nepali are very understanding. You should have realized that by now.

The refund issue as well as your "free-shipping but some handling charges" are misleading to your customers. I suggest you change those misleading issues. Rather than saying FREE SHIPPING, you could easily say flat $4 shipping/handling charge or something of that sort. You might argue your point but most sites do not charge two seperate shipping and handling charges.

It seems like both your products and namaste.com products are from namaste.com's parent company ethnicgrocer.com. I don't think you should have a problem stating this fact either specially since you claim your products are cheaper (which I have not compared).

As far as the cards are concerned, most Nepali do understand that there are connection problems to Nepal, I commend HimTel, Dhukuti and DialNepal all being frank about it here. Thats why "I don't call They Call Me" (which is a problem sometimes as well)

I hope you take my suggestions well and I hope to see Nepali Foods in your online store soon. I also encourage others to make Dhukuti.com a successful venture of our Nepali Enterpruners.
Bhaskar Tripathy Posted on 25-Mar-02 09:57 AM

Thank you for you suggestion and we will consider your feedback and suggestions as soon as possible. At Dhukuti.com we believe that two of the most important things to our business are customer satisfaction and customer feedbacks.

Just a clarification that our groceries are not from “ethnicgrocer.com” or "Namaste.com". We deal with a few different vendors.

Mr. DialNepal,

Comon your site doesn't give 24 hrs. instant pin. You don't process credit card online via SSL, you just take the cc information from customers and process it later. May be you're processing on SSL when you process but from customers prospective, I don't want to give you full information of my cc. I don't know who you are.

DialNepal.com Posted on 27-Mar-02 02:25 PM

Kanchi, I have no idea if you have ever bought any cards from us. We are a startup in this business, that is agreed. On the process we are constantly working on enhancements.

When we started, we would literally stay up till late night and check all your e-mails and send cards manually. What we have now is an automated system. You purchase your card and our automated system e-mails you with the card you purchased, 24 hours a day.

Creditcard processing-- this is how its done, when you purchase, its all thorugh secure server and then gets batch prcessesed.

Using credit card anywhere is actually scary, because you are giving your information to the third party. May it be buying a can of coke at your gas-station or paying at a pizza place. Not trusting some Internet sites or not using credit card on the internet or anywhere is entirely upto the consumers. We understand respect those decisions. For those of you, we can suggest you send us check payment and we will still supply you with pin numbers.

Although DialNepal.com is a new venture for us, we have been doing other successful online businesses for more than 3 years now.

Hope this helps.
