The experiment called the Kathmandu Film Archives -- a joint venture between Martin Chautari and the Godavari Alumni Association is over. The experiment has been quite successful. The KFA recently hosted a three-day Russian Film Festival, attracting a sizable crowd. And so, the KFA is now a reality, just like the The Kathmandu Post Review of Books has been an institution in its own way. Founded last September to show top-quality movies from around the world on a regular basis in Kathmandu, the KFA has now struck agreements with the Russian Culture Center in Kamal Pokhari to use their premises, equipment and influence to show movies ON A REGULAR BASIS for a fee to the Kathmandu audience. Former Boston residents such as Mahendra Man Shakya (a former GBNC president who now heads GAA), Biresh Shah (an MIT-trained architect), Pratyoush Onta (a Brandeis alum) were instrumental in making this KFA a sustainable reality. Thanks too to: Bhaskar Gautam, Sanjog Rupakheti, Neeraj Nepali and Anup Subedi for all their hard work . . . So, hey, we now have our bit of "Brattle Theater" in Kathmandu; of, if Kiran Sitoula is reading this, then, hey, we now have a little bit of "Drexel Movie Theater" in KTM :-) One film we really want to screen, but haven't found a print, is: Cinema Paradiso, which is about a young Italian boy's fascination with the movies. oohi ashu
