While reading Bhoopi's poem "Mero Desh" gives a pleasure and fills us with a sense of pride of belonging to Nepal, one of the most beautiful countries in the world, there is little disagreement that the recent activities that are taking place in our beloved motherland have shattered our sense of innocence, purity and beauty that used to be our hallmark in the world. What is left now is utter chaos and annihilation.

Mero Desh

Dinahu hatyako debit ra credit hisab raakhera
Naafaa ko khojimaa hindiraheko
Byapari jasto - Mero Desh

Ekkaisaun shatabdi ko pahilo yatramai
Bhavishya jati churlumma dubeko
Vivash, Asahaya Titanic jasto - Mero Desh

Afnaa angaharu achanumathi choktidai, luchhidai garda pani
Runa nasakera tulu tulu heriraheko
Bagareko khasiko tauko jasto - Mero Desh

Vivek ra chetana ko Load Shedding le
Diunsai raat parne gareko
Andher Nagari jasto - Mero Desh

Mad-Unmatta bhayera afnai samhar garne yadu vanshiharu
Ani Ni:Sahaya Arjun dekhera akraman garne dakuharu
Mahabharat ko antim drishya jasto - Mero Desh

Mero Desh jastai:

Janta

Laha lahaima lagera
Halla ko pachi kudera
Sadhai phahila huna kojne - janta

Hrithik le ke bhanyo thaha chaina
Ek kaan dui kaan maidan
Aafno ghar aafai jalaune - janta

Bharastachar cha
Okhati paiencha char barsama
Chor haru lai mala lagaune - janta

Ollo ghare ko bichar cha bhinna
Pallo ghare le bandook bokyo
Chimeki le chimeki lai marne - janta

Def, if you ask me I would just bypass Revival's comment. Your poem fitted nicely to what Gokul had to say about our 'desh.' You went to the heart of the matter why our desh has reached to the stage of Gokul's 'Mero Desh.'

Good One!

We might have to start Gokul Fan Club. How about that.

Please don't say that we do not need anymore fan club. If you are not interested, simply do not join this club.

Gokul Ji's poem is great. I gotta meet you poem man! But who is this Kancho brown nosing! He stole my name you know that ... I used to be Kancho before! How do I get it back?? Kancho give up already ... and where is this "Jumlyaha Shahar" ?
Gokul Posted on 28-Mar-02 02:18 PM

Thanks for your interest on the poem.
Kanchho - Is your name "auspice" ?
Original Kanchho - now that you have a younger brother, you can not be Kanchho any more.
Jumlyaha shahar is where Fitzerald was born and where Pirsig started his motorcycle tour and a couple hundred miles from where Bob Dylan first opened his eyes.
Original Kancho Posted on 28-Mar-02 02:40 PM

I don't know who Fitzerald or Pirsig were but I do know who Bob Dylan is. He was born in the cold state of Minnesota USA. So I get it --- Jumlyaha Shahar means Twin Cities ... smart Kancho ... It would've been even smarter just to say Twin Cities, but hey that's how it goes. I guess, my intelligence must've rubbed off on you! Mr Gokul ... you write well, you should write a book and show Samrat Upadhya how it is done.

OK

PS. Kancho ... the fact remains that you stole my identity ...

Gokul,

Enjoyed your poem.

And thanks for posting it straight, here on the main kurakani section, thereby making it easier to provide feedbacks and commenst, and thanks for NOT posting it on that self-consciously isolated island called "sahitya usergroup" :-)

Your poem well reflects the things we feel about our perplexing, confusing and even mysterious desh.

Excellent poems indeed- in content and texture, in selection of variety of metaphors and, the most important of all, in the merciless yet accurate presentation of today, a type not unexpected from Gokul. I enjoyed the poem very much. It should mean a lot (for my own consumption) because it is very rarely that I like poetry (although the first thing I read in any magazine is poetry !). That said, I am trying to find something that I don’t like in these poems (please forgive my negativism, I can not help it). I like realism (my realism is objective realism), but I don’t like pessimism. For me, a pessimism is a state of mind rather than an objective reality. Therefore a pessimism is something that calls for a constant rebellion against it. And this act is not an idealism for me, it is rather a realism, a pragmatism. The only ultimate truth I accept about human life is this: when everything ends, future still remains. Therefore hope should never die. There is just no reason for it.

No. I refuse to accept that our future has drowned like the Titanic. Yes, our present is drowning, but our future is not. Nobody can drown our future, not these bhrastachari leaders, not our selfish king, not those terrorist rebellions, not even the God himself. Future is undestroyable because it never ends. We have the future. We have a good future. It is only the matter of time, not the time that passes by itself, but the time we take to realize the power we have but are unable to realize it. To put it in a different word, it is just a matter of how long we keep wasting our energy and power, as described by the second poet Def in his less sophisticated yet more accurate poems (Good to see that at least NK dared to notice them)!
