Dr Mahesh Maskey, (pictured alongwith Shyam Shrestha in center and Pramod Kafle to Shrestha's left), a valuable member of the GBNC, contributed immensely to GBNC's and Nepal's causes in great spirits while he was in the area. As one thulai kavi said and whose name escapes my mind right now, ".. mama yahako matai yasto chha.." photo lifted from www.kantipuronline.com without prior permission. _diwas

Yes. Mahesh Maskey is the one wearing chasma. An India-trained physician, he spent several years in the Boston area, obtaining a PhD in public health at Boston University and serving as one of the bigwigs on the GBNC Council. He came back to Nepal some time ago. The Nepali Left considers him one of its moderate, temperate intellectuals. On another note, it's a pity that NOT a single so-called GBNC Board Director saw it fit to issue a a private or a public or even an institutional statement for the release of Mahesh Maskey -- one of their former volunteer colleagues. Oh well. Stuff like this happens. Right behind Maskey - and wearing chasma and a hat and a seto kamiz -- is well-known writer Khagendra Sangraula. Shyam Shreshtha, the one in the middle wearing a blue coat, is the editor of Mulyankan monthly -- which is sort of like Nepal's The Nation, a leftist monthly. The one wearing black-blue shirt and sporting some beard and a mustache is Pramod Kafle whose NGO "Grin-So", based in Pratap Pur in Kailali, was active in the Free Kamaiya Movement in 2000. Pramod's NGO and activities are heavy on supporting UML-affiliated trade- and labor unions. The thrust of their press conference was: "The Army took us in. Gave us no clear explanations as to why we were arrested. Threw us in a room at Chhauni for several days. Lectured us -- using profanities and all that -- on what to write and what not to write. Told us to stay away from ever criticizing the Army and the King. Based on our this experience, we have concluded that the government is ineffective in this country, and that power seems to have gone to some other entities." oohi "had signed a petition for the release of Shrestha, Maskey and Kafle even though I happen to disagree with the basis of their political philosophies" ashu ktm, nepal

Diwas, That piece is from "Ajab Nepal" by BheemNidhi Tiwari, which he wrote almost 40/50 years ago, but is still relevant. It starts with Panka pujya padamaa pugchhan, kamal malamai hunchhan Dhurta musa dhaan chorchhan, krishaka sita ganchhan. ... Chiplo awasarbadi siyo ko pwal baat ghusto chha Mama yaha ko matai yasto chha. Devkota's poem about democracy which he wrote around 2010-2013, depicts the situation of current Nepal with 100% accuracy. ...... Prajatantra ko dhwanga ritto karayo Jamana anautho naya aaja aayo.
