Mountaineer Ed Viesturs has a unique way to communicate with team members as he prepares to climb to the 26,545-foot summit of Annapurna in the Nepal Himalayas next month: a Web portal. Team members can log into the site, built using Microsoft Sharepoint, to access maps, check schedules, and chat about food, expenses, strategies, and perhaps to say, "Don't look down!" As of December 2000, 55 of the 109 climbers who'd tried to scale Annapurna didn't make it down alive.
