Hello El Presidente`, Que pasa Me Amigo ? Qwando..qwando..qwando.. qwando.... ARE WE GOING TO CELEBRATE OUR HAPPY NEW YEAR A MONTH LATE AGAIN THIS YEAR ? I thought we were getting a calender of events. I don't think it would take 6 months to make a calender of events does it? Or do we not have any events in the GBNC agenda so the President saw no need of publishing a calender of events ? FROM THE SOUNDS OF WHAT THEY SAID LAST YR...THERE WERE GOING TO BE A LOTTA EVENTS THIS YR BUT ITS LIKE AAYO AAAYO HAATHI AAYO HAAATHI AYO FUUSSSSA

We do have a New Year Party scheduled. Unfortuantely, it is about a month after the actual date. We did try to reserve the venue a long time ago but it simply was not available at the time we wanted. Also, we really cannot afford to do it elsewhere. I am sure you have heard many people scream and yell whenever the entrance fee goes up. So, the New Year's Party is scheduled to take place at Walker Memorial, MIT on the 11th of May, 2002. BTW, the calendar of events for this year has been posted on this site for about a while now. Why we always have parties at MIT? Why not at other places?

Hosting big parties is difficult. For New Year's party, we could have attendance of upto 350 ppl. There aren't too many halls capable of handling this kind of crowd and the ones that are large enough are either taken way in advance or are just too expensive. Dante Aligheri (check spelling) in Cambridge has the capacity and we used to hold parties there, but it now has serious restrictions imposed by the town. So, we are left with little choice. On the other hand, thanks to active community members like Sangita Shresthova, we are able to reserve large MIT halls for free. Hope that answers your question.

El Presidente` You mean to tell me that we are making our Nepali New Year in Nepali Time(one month late) ? Is this going to be a yearly tradition now(Celebrating New year month late every year) ? While we're at it why don't we go ahead and celebrate this year's new year party next year ? that way we can even save a year's worth of money. Why even do anything this year ? There sure was a lotta ho halla last year bout it, but here we goooo We come back and 2peat it again this yr. The venue excuse is not good enough. You had a year to plan....Pls do not give us lame excuses. Lets say for example we have a New yrs Party every year in December. But because you couldn't find a venue lets say you set the part in end of january.... We sure would be the laughing stock amongst all the different ethnic communities here in Boston. And You Mr President would be the leader of the whole laughing stock.

Dear Hari Prasad, It is always very easy to be critical of others. I am guilty of this myself from time to time. But, before you accuse us of making lame excuses, please do consider believing what we have said, which is: we did look for venues very early on. To be specific, one of the first things we did was to prepare an internal list (internal to the council members) of the events and activities for this year. We then started looking for venues. This was started in 12/2001. So, please appreciate what the council is doing for the community. Please recognize that people do not realise how much effort go into these things until they have to do it themselves. Please be more supportive. Bik GBNC President 2001-2002

Dear Hari Prasad, The president has done every effort to make this year more efficient. The council members had the calendar of events for this year in December last year with tentative dates. In that calendar the date for the new year's party was on April 13th. However, when we tried to book the Walker Memorial Hall for that date, it was already booked (ya.. in December last year). The nearest date that we could find was on May 11th. So, we decided to go for this day. The reason that we have to do our parties at MIT is because it saves us at least $10.00 per person. If we decide to do parties at some other place, the fee would be around $25.00, which means that only half the people would show up. I hope you understand our problem and support us in our forthcoming events. Batsal Vice-president, 2001-02.
