Hi All,
A little while ago, some interest was shown to start a MATRIMONIAL SECTION. Please use this thread to share what you envision this section to be able to do as far as process flow goes. Please include any technical details if applicable.

Best Regards

Firstly, the matrimonial section should have two buttons, one for bride, and the other for groom. After someone hits on of the buttons, the following fields should be displayed:

1. Religion:(Drop down box with the following fields: Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, atheist, Bon-po, Bahai, Zoroastrian, Jain, Sikh, leave blank.).
2. Ethnicity/caste: (Bahun, chettri, tamang, magar, newar, leave blank, etc. Some people *DO* care. )
2. Age
3. Location
4. E-mail
5. Marital Status(Use the drop-down box, or whatever it's called. The user needs to select from married (who knows, the prospective bride might be a Muslim, or he might be getting a divorce soon), divorced, never married, and widow)
6. Qualifications( Drop-down box again. User should select from Masters, Bachelors,I.sc or whatever they got in Nepal, PhD, high school, high school dropout(ok, use a different phrase), and some more that u can think of.
7. Height (Again, u can use the drop-down box. Sequence should be 4 ft 4in, 4 ft 5 in, 4 ft 6 in.......5 ft 6 in.......6 ft 6 in.....7 ft)
8. Food: (Drop down box again, with only two choices, vegetarian/non vegetarian. Yeah, it matters to some. Who knows, the prospective groom could be an animal rights activist)
9. Additional info(Just use the dialog box, or whatever it's called. Maximum of 10 lines)
10. Submit button, of course

Also, the database should be searchable. The following fields should be present:
Religion
Age(18-25,25-35.....60-70, etc, etc)
Gender(Male/Female/)
Education/qualification (see #6 above)
occupation
Maximum no. of results(10-100)
Make all the fields except Gender and age optional

Now that things have slowed down a little in my end, I would like to revisit this matrimonial section.

BDM has some great inputs on this; I need more feedback with regards to choices.

Religion:
Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, atheist, Bon-po, Bahai, Zoroastrian, Jain, Sikh, leave blank, (Any more?)

Ethnicity:
Bahun, chettri, tamang, magar, newar, leave blank, etc. (What else?)

What is your opinion on confidentiality. Should we show names/emails or keep it hidden?

Where is this matrimonial section?
ananta Posted on 11-May-02 09:33 AM

Site admin,

If you want to add matrimonial section in this website, you can take many other matrimonial websites such as www.marriage.com as a reference for webpage designing.

I read the news in KTM post that there is also one nepali website for matrimonials but i forgot website now.
NepaliChora Posted on 11-May-02 11:56 AM

I would suggest leaving one field Other with the ability to fill-in, in every category..
makuro Posted on 11-May-02 04:25 PM

San dai, unless there is way to check the veracity of the information provided in one's profile, Matrimonial section won't be very successful. Cosidering the lonely whining of Paschim, Biswo, Ashu and many other folks it is long over due. Hey hey who knows two three years down the road, I may use it too... :-)

Site Admin,
For religion, add one more, "OTHER".
For ethnicity. Well, here is a list of ethnicities in Nepal. Copied from http://www.bethany.com/profiles/c_code/nepal.html

Athpare Rai Awadhi Abadhi, Bantawa Rai, Bengali, Bhojpuri Bihari, Chamlinge Rai, Chepang, Chitwan Tharu, Dang Tharu, Danuwar Rai, Deokri Tharu, Eastern Gurung, Eastern Magar, Galle Gurung, Gamale Kham, Han Chinese, Helambu Sherpa, Kalinge Rai, Kayort, Kham-Magar, Kulunge Rai, Kumaoni, Limbu, Loba, Mahotari Tharu, Maitili, Mugali, Nepalese, Newar, Rajbansi, Saam Rai, Sampange Rai, Santal, Saptari Tharu, Sherpa, Sonha, Sunwar, Tamachhange Rai, Thami,
Thulunge Rai, Tibetan, Western Gurung, Western Magar, Yakha.

Plus, ethnicity is complicated b/c of subgroups/subcastes.
Two more fields that might be necessary: Other and Leave Blank

Whether name/email is kept hidden or is revealed should be decided by the USER. Just include check boxes, with messages that read, "I wanna reveal my name" AND "I wanna reveal my email". Two separate check boxes coz some people might just want to reveal their email address OR name.

Any user should be allowed to automatically email the person advertising FROM this website, if possible.

The person who's posting the advertisement should also be allowed to post his picture, if he wants to.

That's all I can think of. Hope this helps.
:-) Posted on 11-May-02 07:22 PM

I think it is also important to add smoking and drinking habbit.
m Posted on 11-May-02 09:09 PM

a category for hobby should also be added.
and how about a personal statement, so the other person can know more about you...:)

Where is it?
koko Posted on 03-Jun-02 12:36 PM

i ThINK THEY SHOULD PUT MORE EMPHASIS ON PERSONAL INFO LIKE INTERESts, hobbies rather than race and religion etc etc. Asking for race and religion is a discrimination.
koko Posted on 03-Jun-02 12:38 PM

Its not important who you were and where you came from but WHO YOU ARE(PRESENT) So buyers beware....
you aksed for it Posted on 04-Jun-02 04:09 PM

ok, san, you aksed for it (feedback, that is). your matrimonial section might:

allow people to post their picture online (optional, of course)

allow people to state whether they have been married before (ditto)

citizenship

include a text box for entering likes/dislikes

list latest book read

list current subscriptions

ask for views on having children? if so, how many?

ask favorite color (pink--no, blue!)

inquire about medical conditions (allegies, disabilities, etc.)

list zodiac sign(s)

list favorite artists

state religion: add jewish, agnostic, catholic, protestant, satanic, other (specify)

state ethnicity: make this a text box, as most people are mixed

list number of immediate family members (including children)

offer confidentiality: assign an I.D. or "mailbox" number (sound familiar?)
