I am happy and sad to see Nepal's stats. Happy, because even with sessions amounting to less than one per cent of the total, there is quite a bit, it seems, one can do for sajha.com from Nepal. Trailokya and Amar, are you reading this? And I am sad, because, with even with some of our informal halla-khalla about sajha.com in CatManDo, the number of visitors from Nepal appears negligibly small. But, hey, that only makes our "evangelical job" more challenging :-) I see no session from Bangladesh. But fret not!! Now that I'm off to Dhaka for a few days, expect some sessions from there. :-) oohi ashu ktm, nepal

san: help me put that info in perspective. Could you shed light on the growth of gbnc traffic over a period of time? When did the sight really take off, for example? I for one became a gbnc addict, logging at least half a dozen times each day, during the Royal Massacre last year. Away from home, friends, and family, I would vent my anger, frustration, and fears here. Indeed, to a certain extent, it helped me remain sane--and keep my perspective intact--during those troubled times. Thanks, fellow GBNCers. Thanks, San. Happy postings.

To Site Adim and all, Below is the typical log file generated by Apache Web Server. I have used 1.3.24 and 2.0.32 (beta). Log entries include, IP, date/time, method, browser (ver)/OS, country and etc. But I have never heard of State in the log file before. Usually, country is identified by the domain names (.uk, .jp .np etc). I have seen very little usages of states in the URL name (very insignificant) such as .va.us, .ia.us etc. I don't think log file is based on the type of web server you use. I think most web servers work pretty much the same way (as far as loggin the user info is concerned). So in this regard, i am a bit curious how the sate info was generated by the web server for Sajha.com. I would be interested to know. Please view the typical log file created by Apache web server. Shambhu ji, Some log analysis tools seem to provide this information based on where visitor's domain name is registered. The tool may perform whois type of query to get the State info. I think, it only works when reverse DNS lookup can be performed on visitor's IP address. You can even breakdown the stat by Cities if you use this method but this info is not an accurate representation of the actual geographic location of visitors. -PS

Hi SMS, The software being used is LiveStats made by a Canadian firm called Medaihouse, now owned by Deepmetrix. Url is www.mediahouse.com Here's their description on how they get the location: The Sessions by Net Location report shows the locations of resolved net identities that requested information from the Web site. Sessions by Net Location reports the geographic location of users or identities that visit the Web site. They are tracked by their inbound IP Address and resolved using name registration databases that are located worldwide. Resolved locations represent the geographic location of businesses, organizations, government departments, educational facilities and Internet Service Providers that access the Web site. The Sessions by Net Location report provides details regarding where in the world your Web site traffic comes from. This insight might be valuable when determining what languages should be supported on the Web site. As well geographic location of visitors might indicate where customers come from and the business hours required to serve them best. It might also point towards a new potential marketplace for products and services. Zoomed View: Zoomed views are available for any report over a day and can be accessed by clicking the magnifying glass adjacent to any Net location. A report will be generated for the current "Date Selection" period showing a breakdown of that Net Location. Technical details: Only those IP Addresses that have a resolved net location are displayed. The information displayed within location reports is determined using WHOIS server lookups. The results of these lookups are stored in a two-tier database system. One database is located on your Statistics Server computer and the other at the central MediaHouse Resolver computer. When a user visits your Web site their IP Address is logged. Statistics Server looks for it in the "Local Cache" on your Web server computer. If the IP Address is new, Statistics Server sends a resolve request to the MediaHouse Resolver. The MediaHouse Resolver checks its extensive database of resolved IP Addresses. If the IP Address is not found in the database, then WHOIS server queries are done. Once the information for the IP Address is found, it is returned to the "Local Cache" on the server computer. For this reason, not all IP Addresses are identified immediately. If they are not located in either the local database or the MediaHouse Resolver database it can take a day to be displayed. Some IP Addresses might never be resolved. Because registration information is entered by people from all over the world and is often freeform, it might not be possible to match it using any of the MediaHouse Resolver templates.

San, I'd be curious to know how many VA hits don't come from that AOL address in Reston. That would give a better sense of which city is really the winner in Sajha hits (since we can assume that most VA and MD hits can be interpreted as Metro DC.) And Mitra ... yes, there are Nepalis who live in DC. Not everyone is in the burbs. But LOL about your comment. Probably true :-)

Hi V V, I too look forward to meeting and doing guff-suff with you when you get here. Things in Nepal are surely bad, but NOT as hopeless and khattam as some of postings make it out to be. Some of our poster-friends seem to want radically positive changes overnight, but positive changes, if history is any guide, come about by GRADUAL, slow and time-consuming and incremental efforts on the part of all of us. And as long as we Nepalis -- of whatever backgrounds -- are NOT able to or committed to to take necessarily small, gradual, slow and time-consuming and incremental steps -- i.e doing relatively small, small things, and doing them well by taking leadership, by exercising imagination, by throwing one's energy, drive and focus and by learning to work on teams with other Nepalis who think very differently from what we think --- then all we have is this cyber-samizdat which allows us to show promise allr right, but rarely makes us able to deliver in ways that makes a difference in Nepal and among Nepalis. More on this when you get back to Kathmandu. BTW, if you ever get depressed about Nepal, your Prozac is to visit Bangladesh and come away, like I have, fairly impressed with that country. But more on that later. oohi ashu ktm, nepal

It mightnot effect your or me . Infact it does...... not only website owner but all those Nepali intellects out there who use this site as a strong plateform to express their ideas/views. They can figure out where their readers are. Its good to know that site is getting global and attracting new posters. Some of them are not even Nepali. Naresh Karki Baltimore

extrovert, i am a mediocre nepali, and my small but dear world revolves around 'NEPAL'. i got to know about this website only 2 months back, but i have to acknowledge the fact that i am drawn into these forums every single day, if only to read and share ideas on not just thought-provoking, insightful, postings but sometimes funny and otherwise too. to sum it up, A DIFFERENCE HAS BEEN MADE IN 'MY SMALL WORLD'. Please do not forget, small worlds add up to make bigger worlds.. We, who have gained knowledge enough to gather here are fortunate to be doing so, albeit us visiting these forums from all corners of the globe. THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE that this website has brought.period. btw, i can recollect many people here mentioning their workloads amongst their known counterparts, although in a non-egoistical manner. are you reflecting your own situation when you mentioned 'unemployed' egomaniac?

ho hooo now aren't you an intellect? NOT!! Your 'thought-provoking, insightful postings' amounts to nothing. They are discussions simply for entertainment purposes and purely non-empirical. So, it is plausible to say that you could be using your time much more wisely such as volunteering at your local Nep. community rather than pestering people with your unfruitful postings. 'Nuff said.

extrovert, FYI, if you are confused, i wrote, i frequent this website to read and share ideas on not just insightful, thought-provoking postings, but sometimes funny and otherwise too. i have stated the fact that i am just another mediocre nepali, no intellect, but gave credit where it was due, to the likes of paschim, nepe, hahoogoroo, biswo and aashu who make these forums a readers delight. at least to mediocre nepali like me. that you may be above average, or that you find joy in mocking your fellow nepalis is your own prerogative, but just another reply to your comment:" it is plausible to say that you could be using your time much more wisely such as volunteering at your local nep. community" i would like you to practice what you preach, and adapting this attitude towards people who have nothing against you, gives no indication of your practicing your own words. and if i may, chasing faceless skirts while extending invitations to what not MUST BE A BETTER WAY OF UTILISING TIME FOR YOU, EH? PERHAPS THAT IS YOUR WISE IDEA OF VOLUNTEERING YOUR NEPALI COMMUNITY WHEREVER YOU ARE(i'm sure you know which thread i'm indicating here' and telling others to get a life? again, practice what you preach. simply put, it is you who i should tell, 'GET A LIFE!' AND NO, sorry to disappoint you, unlike you, we're not unemployed.

Site Admin, Thanks for the stat. Few questions.. How many sessions are from AOL out of 44276 sessions from Virginia? How are you defining a session? A single request to a page or multiple requests made by a user over a period of time? -PS
