Hi, Just wondering if there are any Nepalese restaurant here in Silicon Valley. If you know any, let me know. I know there used to be Kathmandu West in Cupertino but it seems closed. Bimal

There is one at Berkley - Kathmandu Cafe - owned by husband-wife team (newars from Kathmandu). They also own a Nepali/Tibetian gift shop down the street. The restaurant, I believe opens from 5:00pm. Food is good, pricey though.

"Kathmandu" restaurant near Berkeley is almost a piece of Kathmandu in SF bay area. With paintings of Newari Bhoj on one wall to a Damfu hanging on the other, it is a cosy place serving best Momos, Chwelas and Thukpas anywhere outside of Nepal. Here is an older link from the San Francisco Chronicle that will give you a good picture - http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/reviews/restaurants/5105263222.DTL&type=food As for the famed "Kathmandu West" in Cupertino where the likes of Steve Jobs frequented, it is now (sadly) closed. Try this link to find out how it was like then - (and yes, Gundruk was on the menu) http://www.metroactive.com/papers/metro/08.22.96/veggie-9634.html If you feel like driving a bit, you can venture out to Davis for "Kathmandu Kitchen" which is located in downtown Davis. Another one in north bay is Annapurna Restaurant in Santa Rosa. It has earned some rave reviews - http://www.metroactive.com/papers/sonoma/01.25.01/dining-0104.html And here is your chance to try their delicacies in upcoming Nepali New Year - (if you're in northern CA) http://www.NepalAssociation.org/newyear2059.htm Huge kudos to these Nepali entrepreneurism ..... traveler
