Maoists come under fire for targeting development

KATHMANDU, April 3 - A day after several groups of Maoists went on a bridge-destroying spree in the mid-western Terai district of Bardia, damaging at least three bridges, and bringing the movement of traffic from Banke to Bardia to a grinding halt, parliamentarians on Tuesday strongly condemned the Maoists’ move and called on the rebels to stop their violent and anti-development acts. more at KOL.

Now, how can say that Maoists are different from Al quaida or Talibans.
Now, they are turning country into rubble. Still, Prachanda calls it
"for the peoples!".

It seems that maoist war has now entered the phase of destruction. May be BRB will be able to justify it by quoting phrases from Marx, Lenin or Mao's works. But, it is going to be too costly for Nepali people.

This war between govt and maoist can take many possible courses- some of the course are less costly for Nepalese people while some others are more costly. For instance, if the last round of table talk had suceeded, it would have incurred minimum cost. Even after emergency, if army had been effective to disarm maoist by now, the damage would have been minimized. Now it seems that it is not the case. The security infrastructure appears to be grossly inadequate for RNA to wage an effective operation against maoist. So, it will take more time than originally expected.

If the RNA operation is going to take long time, then the course to be followed by the war would be very costly in every respects- more visibly in terms of loss of life and property. For we ordinary people, destruction of infrastructure may apper as a foolish act of maoist fanatics. But in their gurrilla strategy, it might be a natural strategy of war (if they are planned) or just reaction of MARTA kya NAHIN KARTA. As BRB wrote (few months back) in Kantipur "maoist would not mind spending next 100 years in destructing everthing built by the capitalist regimes and spend another 100 years in building new things". The usual palnning horizon is 20-30 years (long term), but BRB's horizon is 200 years! (I wonder how long he expect to live?). I thinks this explains why maoist find it logical to destry.

So, what do these early signs of destruction and sabotage indicate?-- an urgent need for a peaceful settlement. Longer the war goes on harder will be to bring the maoist to the table. If RNA cornor maoist without alrenative political way out (that is only stick and no carrot), we should not be surprised to see large scale destruction of our physical infastructure (under MARTA KYA NAHIN KARTA strategy). We have seen, the government is not able to privide security even to important public offices in district headquarter- let alone key infrastructure such as bridges and power stations spread all over the country.

Nepal ko Maobadi campaign is a textbook example of how such things are accomplished. It could have been right out of CIA operation manual:
1. Terrorize at grassroot level
2. Finance the institution
3. Accumulate arms and supplies
4. Start low
5. Hit low profile infrastructures (low profile in the sense that they would not face 6. significant counter-offense, eg. the remote police posts, etc.)
7. Hit communication and transport (this disrupts state operations significantly)
And finally:
9. Big Bang..

Looks like they are in stage 7 now....

lets all stand up and kill the maoists, i think we've put too much of their crap. Shere, Madave why don't you mobilize your people (that is if you have some).

I think its essential for a National Government under the Congress leadership right now. That way, UML and other smaller parties will be as much responsible as Congress and maybe the fight against the Maoists will be won.

Unless people stand up for Maoists misdeeds, they are going to continue doing it. Lets stand up and kill them bastards.
