It is know fact that Nepal's political, economical, environmental (or you name it) conditions are deteriorating everyday. Most of us in US, look at the situation and shrug off and debate amongst ourselves (at the most), with our own ideologies and presumtions (which I don't personally don't mind... but mostly the argument ends up in a bitter note).

The fact is, most of the people living in US (I presume it is the same with the people staying elsewhere but I cannot speak for them since I have not met any of them) are deeply concerned about the situation of the country. I am pretty sure that majority of us are willing to help the country in any possible ways. However there are several issues regarding this, which I would like to point out. They are:

1. First and foremost, we all don't know how can we all help...
2. Actually is there anything that can be done by the Nepalese living overseas?
3. Are there any group or organization who are making an attempt to do something for the country
3. Is there an organization (proven, of course) in Nepal, that has been doing something worthwhile (and of course, without cheating and putting money onto themselves)
4. Any ideas floating around that can be implemented if we have a group of believers together
5. Is the situation of the country so bad that nothing can be done anymore

Please let the ideas fly... Maybe we can make a difference... Maybe we will...

Hi,

The concept of helping to the fellow Nepalese helpless people is really outstanding one. There are some people in US, who really want to help to the "brothers and sisters" for making their life comfort and for letting their children educated.

I have not heard yet any organization that takes care of the collected fund or channel through it with efficient way.

There are thousands of Nepalese people who are working for making people's life better, but they are being better off having such funds from various channels. Some of the source of money is INGOs and some of them are Nepalese government source.

Anyway, good luck for helping to the "brothers and sisters" in Nepal.

To help Nepal, SMALL, consistent, deliverable and regular steps are more
important and more necessary than abstract thoughts that produce no
action.

Don't get me wrong: I love abstraction myself, but know that it can be
a cop-out to lose oneself in abstraction all the time while trying to find
solutions to REAL problems affecting REAL people in Nepal.

And so, for a start, you can help Nepal by writing a petition on behalf of Backward Society Education (BASE) (see my posting "BASE in Danger" on that subject here), and sending it to Sher Bhadaur Deuba (PM) and Khum Bdr. Khadka (Home Minister from Dang, where Dilli Chaudhary is also from).

Taking that action would be a small and deliverable step for you to REALLY
start helping Nepal.

After all, yes, BASE is a REAL organization, caught between the hostilities of
the government and the Maoists. It is facing real problems, even to operate its programs for rural people.

And BASE is only one example.

There are many other organizations (civil bodies in Nepal) that don't have friends and contacts posting stuff about them on sajha.com or doing some halla-khalla for them in places where it really matters for them.

And they need all the friends and supporters in these times, and you don't ditch your friends when they need you the most even when what you can do for them may well be very limited.

If organizations/friends.people like that cannot be helped at times of their real need, then, what's the point of worrying about Nepal in abstract, big terms?

Quite simple. Nepalese have a tendency to think that someone else, i.e. foreigners, are going to come and build nepal. Change that attitude and Nepal can make a U turn. Of course, the devil is in the details, but attitude is a good place to start.
