Nature represents for me an inexhaustible source of inspiration -
natural phenomena, which provide the observer with endless
possibilities for creating highly diverse composition and interpretations.

The expanse of the landscapeas well as its infinite diversity opens my
inner space.

It is the experience of space that makes creativity possible for me
in the first place. In Nepal's mountain world I easily find stimulation
wherever my gaze turns, whether in a simple stone or the grand
landscape of the Himalaya.

From 1994 to 2000 I accompanied my husband on expeditions in such
high-lying regions as Dolpo, Mustang and Nubri. During them I naturally came
across Tibetan Stupas everywhere, and marvelled at and photographed them. As
a motif, the stupa became interesting for me in terms of a built
structure that I perceived as being embedded in its natural surroundings.

Created from local materials, often displaying a natural asymmetry and at
times even consisting only of a pile of stones, it appears to be both
not different from its surroundings and nonetheless discernible as a
symol of transcendence. In Buddhism the stupa epitomizes the
enlightened mind of the Buddha, the realization of emptiness.

As has been taught in the Heart Sutra: form is emptiness, emptiness is form.
As I engage in artistic work, I seek to follow what arises naturally
by the use of materials such as handmade lokta paper, herbs and the
seeds of plants. I allow the forms, movements and tones - some of which
occur spontaneously, owing to the consistency and structure of the material - to flow into my composition, and even to be creative themselves. Thus the ideas underlying my pictures often go through many transformations.

The Exhibition will remain open till the 20th of April, 2002, 11:00
am to 6:00 pm except Saturdays
