Call to Artists for the 20th ANA Convention Cultural Program, July 5th, 2002 At Marriott Westfields, Chantilly, Virginia Dear Friends: The 20th Annual Convention of the Association of Nepalis in the Americas will be hosted in the Washington DC area from July 4th through the 7th, 2002 at the Marriott Westfields Conference Center. As you are aware from past experience, live entertainment forms a very important part of the ANA Convention experience. Over the years the success of the ANA Convention has owed much to the participation of volunteer Nepali artists from all over North America. This year the ANA and Washington DC Convention planning committee is placing special emphasis on putting together an extraordinary entertainment package for the convention-goers, and includes a live performance by incomparable Mr. Deep Sheathe accompanied by the dynamic and talented “pop” band 1974AD . As in past years, there will be a “cultural program” consisting of Nepali talents of North America. This will take place on Friday, July 5th, tentatively from 7-10pm. The live performance by artists/band from Nepal is scheduled for the evening of Saturday July 6th. We would hereby like to invite Nepali artists and organizations around North America to submit items for inclusion in the cultural program for the 20th ANA convention. The Entertainment Committee has decided to outline the following broad criteria for inclusion: 1) The content – song, dance, skit, etc., -- must reflect some aspect of Nepali culture. 2) The performer/performers must have prior experience in stage performance and must be at or above the advanced amateur level. 3) The contents must be appropriate for viewing by children. 4) All items must be under 6 minutes long. 5) Detailed information on the item – audio, video or script -- must be communicated to the DC Entertainment Committee at least 4 weeks prior to the Convention. 6) The entertainment Committee reserves the right to select the most appropriate items from those submitted to it. Lastly, Polaris Club and Kaligandaki Club of the DC area will put together a series of ethnic dances of Nepal to represent the major regions and artistic traditions of Nepal. If you can contribute to this effort we would welcome your input. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.
