Yet another disciplinary action within the Nepali Congress Party - Minister Jay Prakash Gupta expelled from party membership for one year. Before that five expulsion and three warning including ministers and central committee members. Is NC's Disciplinary Committee really committed towards disciplines among its fellow members? or Is it a drama to frame members with differing views? Every people have their right to express what they feel and what they think of any matter. However, it is not always true when it comes to political parties in Nepal. No gut feeling; "Mathiko order ho hajoor bhane anusar nai garnu". I wonder against whom NC should have taken disciplinary action? To minister Kharel or to CWC member Narahari Acharya or to minister Gupta or to Shastri? Majority of the members who were disciplined within last fourtnight seemed more disciplined in the past than those who took action against them. Are any members or ministers disciplines when they were accused of guilty in corruption or abuse of authority? Are any ministers or prime ministers disciplined when they were accused of bribing MPs, taking commission or hiring and transfer of people? Are they within the party stature, rules and regulations? Why was Girija not disciplined by the disciplinary committee when he was disciplined by PAC or Abuse of Authority......? Why Khum Bahadur was not disciplined being responsible for killing innocent people in Dang few years ago? Why Deuba not disciplined for sending MPs to Thailand just to count his votes in parliament? However, as the number of disciplinary actions goes up, I see a reform inevitable within a short period of time within NC. It's time to express own's feeling what you feel is true. As a citizen of Nepal, you have every right to express what you feel about current situations in Nepal. Truth can't be hidden for long. This whole drama is the frantic attempt to remain in the tug-of-war of power. To date brain doesn't rule within NC but hawaldari does. Let's hope those punished brains will be able to expose the light of truth shortly.

And Nepali Congress Party, as its stands now in 2002, has the gall to claim that it is a democratic party!! The basic idea of democracy, to paraphrase Voltaire, is that you allow even expression of viewpoints that you personally disagree with. With this explusion example (somewhat reminiscent of Stalin's or Mao's infamous purges), I shudder to think how Nepali Congress would have ruled had it really been in power during the Panchayati times. Most likely, its top bosses would have hanged their dissenters!! Gupta may have said the right things or the wrong things. But the only way to find out whether he was right or wrong was/is by allowing FREE and OPEN debates and discussions inside and outside of NC - through the papers and the media -- so that many, many PLURAL, DIVERSE viewpoints would come to the fore, enriching everyone's knowledge-base, and ultimately STRENGTHENING NC's own vaunted commitment to democracy. But Nepali Congress is beset by self-doubts; it lacks self-confidence, and is afraid of free (even stupid) expressions of ideas. It is afraid dissent within its ranks. It is afraid of mavericks and iconoclasts. It is afraid of any view that does not toe the party line. It is afraid of any thought that displeases its chairman. It is afraid of any member who chooses not to follow the Congressi herd for whatever reason. And the way it deals with all its fears? By throwing out its "offensive" members, holding them up as examples of 'bad behaviours'. In short, Nepali Congress wants all of its members to think alike, and to be alike -- like equally corrupt, equally dull, equally ineffective, and equally afraid of views that are different from their own. While I am no fan of Mr. Gupta, I don't know what to make of this irony of his now being made, well, "a free speech martyr" on the altar of Congressi yet another act of sheer stupidity. oohi ashu ktm, nepal

I wonder how educated our mininsters are...like who is our education minister and how educated is he? During the Panche time I remember having a health minister like Sushila Thapa...God...I seriously think she is a gawar. I believe she was appointed by our late queen Aishwarya. And Sushila Thapa was as corrupt as Late Aishwarya or maybe worse. I hate people like her and the congressis and the males and the emales. I wonder why these corrupt politicians are still having a good time when the rest of the Nepalese are suffering. Why hasn't any brave Gorkhali gotten very mad and killed all of them? Hutty

What does this disciplinary actions mean to minister Gupta and the likes? Does he need to quit from NC government since he is no longer a NC general member? If the answer is NO, it meant probably nothing for them. All they care is power/post. If the answer is YES, too bad. Ashu mentioned in his earlier posts that CWC of all political parties have too much power. They need to consider this issue for future. On another note, I heard a rumor that GP Koirala has a wish to die as a president of NC. Actually his daughter has influenced him for such a wish so that she could be NC's next president gaining all emotional votes like Rajiv Gandhi did in India. Once she becomes NC president, she has all learned how to become PM of Nepal. Thanks to dad. This is just an early warning for those of you who couldn't handle shocking news. Or is it shocking news at all?

Parakhiji: To support any one party in NC conflict is useless. I am so disappointed with these people. They do everything for their personal benefit. Take this Gupta dude. I respected him a lot. I used to read his 'Purba Kshitij' which was an IQ magazine(like Antarastriya Manch)published in Panchayat era.You know, who used to be the publisher of that paper? Umesh Giri. Mr Giri is now already deeply involved in pure criminal activities. Mr Gupta was sanchaar mantri during the arrest of journalists, and once wanted to introduce bill to curb freedom of press. I am pretty sure that this dude is gonna capitulate to NC high command, and will be forgiven. This is all number game within NC. Girija and his goons are desperate to go to power , so they are even talking about national government. Never mind that NC has popular mandate, but to go to power, they are ready to share power with anyone. They don't even value the popular vote, how will they respect constitution and democracy? Deuba, Gupta, Koirala etc will do everything to get power. Howelse can you describe the existence of people like Khum Bdr in NC now, given that he betrayed both Bhattarai and Koirala? No one faction has guts to denounce him. Because politics of NC can be summed up in two words: number game. NC will only be better if the whole new group of leadership emerges, otherwise, these people have inherited dangerously anti-development corrupt mentality, and their new student wing leaderships are just gonna continue that. Talk to one NC leader in Nepal, and you will be really surprised to know that such a low level person is gonna be leading your nation! It is very likely that sajha.com is better place than NC.

Personnally, I don't like the way whole bunch of politicians in Nepal are acting. I was just assuming that restricting freedom of expression will bring some reform within NC with some of its bold members revolting. NC's main fight in the last 12 years has been to 'keep from breaking' and 'get hold of power'. They have had so many times of forgiveness (every incidence of deception, corruption etc.) in the name of unity. This has lead to the "a non democratic (Tain Chup - Main Chup)" culture within the so claimed "the only democratic party in Nepal". :<( Their all time internal fued has kept them busy within their party cirlce and they never got time to think for the reform packages our country needed. That's the reason why NC has been a total failure to lead the economic and social development of country.
