Dear friends,
With the initiative of we few friends, we have established a non profit organization to help educate the poor kids in Nepal. We have two social workers in Nepal who is volunteering to select the kids, based on the financial condition of the family.

This year we started by putting three kids to school with our personal resources and we hope to add more kids each year in our program each year. We are committed to sponsor each kid upto their secondary education.

Please visit our site at www.nepalchildren.org

Any small contributions made by you will be a big step towards building a bright future of those financially disadvantaged kids.

I strongly hope for your co-operation for the success of this program.
Sincerely
Bigyan Raj Acharya

Bigyan,
Timro ra saathi haru ko effort is commendable. (Look who's talking!)

It is the basics that small groups like NCEF, one set up by Mnpls Nepali Community, Suskera, are able to provide and empower people they serve. And their efforts are often unnoticed.

Diwas dai,
thanks for your compliments. All we need to make it a success is a generous support form everyone, and I always hope for it.
thanks again

Good job. But just a thought.

Someone needs to reach out there - Rolpa, Rukum, Jajarkot, Kalikot, Humla, etc - and do something for children there. The kids and their paretns too are so far away from any kind of assistance.

No wonder these places are fertile grounds for Maoist recruitment. At least Maoists give them hopes.
villageVoice Posted on 15-Apr-02 03:10 PM

By far the best thing the west has done in Afghanistan is to send one million (was it more?) children back to school. Thank you, UNICEF.

But how many people need to die in Nepal before the world - and we - sit up and say, "Gosh, let's do something about it."
friend of nepal Posted on 16-Apr-02 12:04 AM

I think it's a great effort. Seems like decent people are behind this project who might be little more trustworthy than just a random person out of kathmandu. (I just looked at the page with board of directors). I am sending in $25. Good job. Keep it up.
fren Posted on 16-Apr-02 06:34 PM

How can I be part of your team? I wanna do more than just contribute money. I was thinking of initiating some sort of programs similar to urs. But since ur org seems reputable, i would like to be part of this.

Hey bro,

It is a good start. Need hands ??? Here we are and let us know what we can do from the beginning. This step reminded me the days back in Nepal, while I was attending in Paropakar M.V. Kalimati. I had few classmates, who were living in Paropakar Anathalay and at the same time, they were students of Paropakar M.V. Most of them became as good student and they got to have decent jobs, while they turned out from the school as well as college. Some one's effort made them educated. Thereby, it certainly brings an excellent out come in the future. Keep it up, bro.

diyalo Posted on 17-Apr-02 09:36 AM

One of the BOD of DIYALO was impressed by the enthusiasm of the the initiator of this thread, and emailed me saying that we should also post there about our organiazation. So this is to inform the visitors of the site that we have also been doing similar activities in nepal since a few years back.

Diyalo is a not-for-profit organization that primarily helps the education (and in future health sectors of Nepal), primarily by sponsoring socio-economically disadvantaged Nepali students to attend good quality schools and colleges, helping needy schools and villages,( and in future conducting health camps in the needy areas of Nepal). Diyalo was officially established in the U.S.A. in December 2000 by a group of young students and professionals of various fields, though various works were being done by the organization long before that.

With help and support from people like you, Diyalo can make a big difference in the lives of many people. Eating in restaurants one less time per month than you did before, or watching one less movie per month can radically change the life of a child in Nepal. Contributing just $15 - $20 per month can send a child to school. Please join our hands to lift the needy ones out of their poverty and ignorance.

Please contact us if you are interested in helping us, or if you have any question. Any kind of help, no matter how little, can be very valuable, and will be highly appreciated.

Our webiste is located at www.diyalo.org, but is still under construction. So the following information which maight of interest to many of you willing to contribute is missing on the site.d

If you are using a check, please write your check in dollar even if your bank is in countries other than the USA, and please make your check payable to DIYALO. Mail your check to the following address in the USA:

Please visit www.diyalo.org for more information. The link mentioned in the previous posting doesn't work, since the punctuation marks have become the part of the link by mistake.

Hi,

There are couple of other org's those are running their program with various efforts. I am glad to know about your effort.

Can you come out with your real identity on the net and on the spot that you can inroduce yourself without any hesitation? It would be great.

himal Posted on 17-Apr-02 12:01 PM

Based on the info. above, I believe "Diyalo" is the President of the organization(Bisundev Mahato). I am sure quite a few visitors to this site know him in person or have heard of many good things he has been doing.
bisundev Posted on 17-Apr-02 04:00 PM

Okay since some of you think it's better to reveal the identity of the poster, this is Bisundev (thanks himal, you guessed it right) who started the posting about Diyalo. I did so on the suggestion of our very dedicated BOD member, Uttam Sharma, who noticed another similar thread here.

As for who our other BOD members and other volunteer/members are please, refer to the website (though this will be updated soon). There are much more dedicated people and well wishers than those mentioned here. Due to their hard work and dedication, we have been able to keep our students as boarders at a very good private school in Nepal. We chose a school outside the valley (Lahan) merely for the cost-benefit implications. We have 2 dedicated volunteers in the area where our students are, and a local non-profit organization looking after our students. The supervisor visits the school and students once a week. She also takes some meat every week for our students (Diyalo doesn't pay for this). This is her own idea, and she does that at her own expense.

We have 3 volunteers in Kathmandu as well. At this point I must mention Ujwal Thapa who went back to Nepal after graduating from Bennington. He has been a great help to us. Last summer, he visited with me to the site of the school where our students are, and spent more than a week, interviewing parents, students, and teachers, as well as taking video clips and pictures. He is currently doing a lot too ( he might beat me up for mentioning all these without asking him. hehe).

There are other people who have been great help to us, but I will refrain from mentioning them all here, but well inform the interested at our site and news letters later. But I will just mention that there has been people from countries other than Nepal too who have been contributing substantially. I, on behalf of Diyalo, thank them all very sincerely.

Yes, we realize that we need to update our site. We are waiting for some pictures and other details to arrive from nepal. (I had them on my computer, but got destroyed by a viral attack).

Please keep checking our website for more and new informations/updates. Also if you could email us, we would add you to our mailing list to which we will soon be starting to send our regular newsletter.
bijaya nepali Posted on 29-Apr-02 06:22 PM

Hello Bigyan,
When you posted this, I was more than skeptical. I didnt really pay attention because I thought that it was another one of those things that we Nepali students do to feel less guilty for being abroad. But I cannot ignore it now because this seems to be different.

I have looked at the progress in NCEF since you posted this, and it is remarkable. In less than one month, they have done more than most organizations do in their first few months.

I had always felt that being abroad, we needed to somehow prove our professionalism to people here, and our dedication to children back home.

I think this is a great contribution to our bhai bahini haru at home and that everyone should see the potential in this, the professionalism NCEF has shown, and suggest ways to improve. And of course donate.

I have already sent my donation, and I am thinking that I could donate $25 out of my paycheck every month as a habit- is there a way I can direct deposit stuff?

I think it is our responsibility to do this because for us it is a small contribution, but for kids at home it changes their lives.
Bigyan Raj Acharya Posted on 29-Apr-02 08:29 PM

Hello Bijaya ,

I greatly appreciate your generosity, and thankyou for the time you have taken to visit NCEF. We are still working hard to make things better, we have been able to successfully register our organization in the US and we are currently working to register one in Nepal as well, but as usual things has been delayed by "SARKARI procedures" .

Soon we'll launch an updates page which will facilitate our visitors and donors to know about the progress of the organization. Also I would like to inform you that you can join our mailing list that we have setup for our donors, inorder to provide them with the updates.

As for the direct deposit, we are still waiting for our tax exemption status to be certified and once its approved we will inform you.

Regards
Bigyan
