Kathmandu Post Report MYAGDI, April 17 The locals of Sim of Babiyachaur Village Development Committee (VDC)-2, 16 km west to district headquarters Beni Bazaar, heartily welcomed the first vehicle that reached the village running throught the dusty road on Tuesday. The vehicle carried the Chairperson of the District Development Committee (DDC) Navraj Sharma who went to the village to inaugurate the 16 km long motorable country road. The road which is a section of Maldhunga-Beni-Darbang-Jaljala (Baglung) Road Project was contructed at the cost of Rs. 14.9 millions rupees, according to Project Chief Krishna Raya. The project is being run under Local Development Construction Project of Ministry of Local Development. The DDC provided the donation of 8.5 millions rupees for the construction of Beni-Sim section of the road. The average cost of each kilometre of the road is just under a million rupees but DDC Chairperson Sharma claimed the road is built with the lowest cost and is of highest quality among the roads built in the hilly areas. "We could have constructed the road up to Darbang if the government has not cut off the annual budget of VDCs and DDC," said Sharma. The construction of the 16 km road section has not been possible without the active participation of DDC and locals, according to Raya. "The road could have reached Darbang if we had enough budget to cut through the slope in Babiyachaur," said Raya. The project couldn’t purchase the needed explosives in the lack of budget although the security forces have permitted to do so, said Raya. The Jeep Entrepreneurs’ Association has announpced that 12 jeeps would be serving people on the newly built road.
