Seems like Maoists are all over the forest in the Makalu area--especially nervous young kids with lots of guns. They robbed these mountaineers in Sedua, between Num and Tashigaon (Sankhuwasabha district), and then "politely" gave receipts. Btw this area is very heavily forested. Not a lot of villages up there, and about a week from a motor road. Certainly an ideal location for guerilla camps. Like so much of Nepal. Here's what the trekkers wrote about it: http://www.everestnews.com/makstory02.htm

Sally, The problems with Maoists is their immature kids. They are committing some of the most horrific crimes that probably even their odious leaders wouldn't commit. They are completely out of control, and playing with guns. Remember cultural revolution and the scene from "the killing field" depicting the then Cambodia? It is carbon copy out there.

Yes, that area is heavily forested. In fact, I had a reverse experience: terrorized by an armed policeman, who was dead drunk...in the middle of nowhere. To look back, it was a defining moment in my life: I realized what these policemen can do to helpless villagers. Maoists, or bad police, bandooks have become baandarko hatma nariwal.
